My dog has fleas and i need alternative treatments?
my dog has fleas and to got a spot on thing for him because the vet recommended it for him many years ago.(Advantage by bayer)
im sure ive put it on him right because its worked every other time
i only treat him when he actually gets fleas because its expensive (and my mum refuses to pay that much)
its been around 2 weeks since i put it on and it hasnt had much effect unlike the other times. i dont want to give him a flea bath because he usually bites his skin to its broken when its itchy (from allergies and stuff) so i dont want to put any cleaning stuff on broken skin
+ he is already wearing a tick collar for paralysis ticks and not fleas (other collars dont usually protect him from those type ticks or only last for 2 weeks) so id rather not use anymore pesticide treatment (ticks are common in my area and id rather not pay another $1300 vet bill if he gets tick poisoning)
any suggestions?
the spot on is meant to kill fleas around him as well
he has only been infesting 3-4 times in his 8 year life

vinegar. no lie
Have you treated the house? It may be that you are managing to kill the fleas on him but if you haven’t treated the house then he is just getting reinfested continually.
Another thing you can try on him is Neem. It is a natural plant used as an insectiside in africa and now commonly found for use elsewhere. You can buy it as neem oil or shampoo. It smells a bit but if you add a couple of drops of neem oil to lavendar oil and put this on your dog it helps loads.
fleas can live in carpets and furniture, i would treat them. garlic is very good, i put a clove of garlic in my dogs food every night. I have heard of a dry food that is ment to keep fleas away.. if you phone your vets they will give you advice over the phone! good luck!
You could try something like this.
natural flea repelant:
These are pure essential oils keep them away from dogs they will last for ages
21 drops of Geranium
14 drops of Lavender
21 drops of Eucalyptus
14 drops of Tea Tree
Mix in a plant sprayer with 250-300 mils of warm water and spray your dog while you groom not only will he/she smell wonderful but the insects hate it
You can wash your dog with regular dawn dish soap and it will kill any fleas on the dog but it will not prevent them from coming back so you may have to do this several times and make sure you vaccum a lot. And clean anything and everything a lot. My dogs got fleas this last summer and it was a nightmare. Maybe you could try switching to a different kind of flea medicine as well? I also know that there is a pill called capstar and it is supposed to kill every flea on the dog very quickly. I think its within an hour or something like that.
Use the flea medicine as intended, and you wouldn’t need an alternative. Just food for thought.
I feel bad for the dog, it has to suffer because the owner is too cheap to take care of it.
Diatect II Bug & Pest Killer is great for outdoor pest treatment and it’s safe for humans and pets.
Feline Target Spray is a safe alternative to flea collars, which can cause liver damage. Another benefit is that it also doubles as insect repellent to deter them from getting onto your pets.
Ingredients are: Lavender, Rosemary, Sweet Mace, Neem, Pennyroyal, Aloe, Celandine, Milk Thistle, Lemongrass oil, Citronella oil, Tea Tree oil and Benzoin.
