Can someone tell me about fleas please? EW?
First my apologies this will be a little lengthy.
OK…
Well my boyfriend and I sleep in the same bed. Like 3 days ago my boyfriend came up with these slightly itchy pimple like things all over his body. I’ve had hives before thought maybe it was allergies to the new body wash or it could have been some food. Told him to try some benedryl, it may or may not have helped it just made him sleep so we don’t know.
Its only getting worse, I dismissed bed bugs/fleas immediately as I was getting even one little bump or bite.
Then I got all ‘bugged out’ thinking about well maybe it might be…
The websites say some people just don’t get bites or don’t react to them. They say the dog might scratch/itch/bite his butt more if he has them. Sometimes when hes walking he like drops/turns really fast because his butt itches.
Tell me what you think please. We don’t have insurance so we want to figure as much as we can out before going to the doctor.
Oh my. Thanks guys. I’m at my moms using the computer so I cant check the dog right now. Argh.
I appreciate all the help I will try to post back soon with an update.

If your dog has fleas you can see them. Check his skin and look for flea dirt or fleas. Comfortis is a great tablet to give your dog to kill fleas for a month. You can get little red spots from flea bites, it’s not a big deal.
it is fleas, i had them bite me before and same thing happened, you neeeeedddd to get an exterminator to get rid of them. Or they will not go away, and take the dog to the vet to get treated for fleas wether it be a shot or other flea meds. sorry, they are a pain in the ass
Get rid of the mattress. Sounds like bedbugs, not fleas. Fleas are everywhere and you can see them. Bedbugs you do not see and they live in pillows, bedding and the mattress. They don’t just go away with treatment either. They live in all the bedding and poop. It is the layers of poop that most people react to as well with allergies. Yes, the poop. Microscopic poop and layers and layers of it.
Treat your dog with Advantix or Revolution. Revolution will treat any parasites on the dog – fleas, ticks, ear mites, skin mites etc…
Unfortunately – the treatment will be more than the doctor anyhow.
A quick and easy way to see if you have fleas is for you to take a white sock (and it has to be white) put it on your hand and rub your hand across your carpet. If you have fleas, they will jump on the sock as you are running it across the floor.
Bedbugs are microscopic. I’ve never seen them in person, but on tv they say to look around the edge of the mattress for little brown spots which would be dried blood. There’s a 100% chance that your dog has fleas unless you are using Confortis from the vet. A 6 month supply will cost about $80.00 but it is the best stuff we have ever seen for fleas on dogs. Which ever is biting your bf he is probably more sensitive to it than you are. There’s nothing a people doctor can do for you if it’s either bug. Throw out the mattress, bug bomb the house, then steam clean the carpet and furniture. Good luck in you quest for knowledge.
OK…if it was fleas you’d see them on the white sheets and if not white sheets put on white socks and sit on your couch with your feet on the floor. If you have fleas, you’ll see them. BUT if you have bedbugs you won’t see them as easy. Bedbugs bite and they leave really small bloody dots on you. The adults can be large enough to see but they are nearly see through white colored. Bedbugs are on the rise so much that its been in all the papers and magazines. Hope you get your issue figured out. Bedbugs are easier to deal with. Fleas can be so totally hard to eliminate. Good luck.
if it was fleas, youd easily know. for one you could just look under your dogs fur by the armpits, behind the ears, on the back by the tail..and youd see a little black spot or two trying to get away from you.
bed bugs are not fun either but much harder to find, MUCH HARDER! sometimes canines have to be used to find bed bugs in furniture. your best bet then would be to toss the matress or buy bed bug be gone. its a spray that works pretty good against fleas too, just spray 2-3 cans of it all over every inch of the matress while you guys are @ work
Your dog’s continuous itching and scratching will probably be your first clue that he’s got fleas. If you look closely, you may actually see the little dark brown bugs. More likely, though, you’ll see what look like black and white specks. The black specks are “flea dirt,” or flea feces. The white specks are flea eggs. If you do see actual fleas, they won’t be easy to catch because they move fast and can jump farther than you’d think their tiny legs could take them.
