A MUST READ FOR ALL DOG OWNERS ABOUT FOOD!?
I set out to do research to give my two dogs good food. I had like so many other people bought into the commercial brand foods like Purina, Eukanuba, and Pedigree. Well after doing research on the different brands i have found shocking truths about foods from grocery stores. Like putting dead dogs and cats that had been put to sleep with lethal injections and road kill animals along with MANY other terrible things that are put into our pets food that can kill them. I have also found out the 87% of dogs die due to bad commercial foods. Either by lack of nutrition, cancers, or other things that are in our pets foods. I am so glad that I found this info out and I will be throwing out my Purina food and go out and buy some Blue Buffalo since it is the best food I can find near me. I will be buying Blue Buffalo Senior since my Pom is 9 and my Dachshund is 7. My Dachshund had bad problems with skin allergies and now I have found out that it is due to bad food. I know that a lot of people don’t want to switch to a brand like Blue Buffalo because it is more money. But in all reality it isn’t. I did the research you can get a 30lb bag of Blue Buffalo Adult dog food for $42.99 and you can get a 8lb bag of Purina one adult dog food for $12.99 so if you bought 4 bags to make it up too 32lb since it wouldn’t add up too 30lb it would cost you $49.00. Blue Buffalo is roughly the same price! Plus since you are feeding a better dog food you dog will not eat as much as he would normally. His coat will be shinier, his stool will be smaller, his breathe will be better. He will not die from chemicals and waste. I used to think that the people on here getting on to people telling them that their dogs food was crap was annoying but I want to thank them for that because it got me to want to check out why they were saying that. So everyone on here that says get off of the crappy food THANK YOU! And for a QUESTION can you give me success stories from your own dogs that have gained a better life from switching from a bad food to a good food?

Primary source, please.
I do not feed processed food, for my own reasons. But I will not stand by while others spread lies and propaganda. So please find me the PRIMARY source for that statistic. And by primary, I mean a peer-reviewed journal article, complete with references, statistical analyses, etc., not just a link to a web-site. I can find a web site that says the earth is flat – so web sites aren’t very convincing, are they??.
There is no way that any food made in the USA would be allowed to have dogs and cats in it that have been euthanized. If that were the case it would kill any dog that ate it. I wouldn’t feed my dog anything that was made in China, but the hogwash you are trying to push on people here is just nonsense!

I feed a combination of Innova, Health Wise, and Merrick Before Grain, so I know my dogs are in good hands, eating very good quality food, and I don’t mind the cost since I know they are overall healthier than many dogs out there.
I agree with you the commercial dog foods are horrible, and it is a shame not enough people realize this. And, it is the poor dogs that suffer. But, I am also sure they do not put dead dogs, cats and road kill in to foods, at least not here in the US.

I for one changed dog foods 1year ago as I almost lost 6 dogs to illness that was caused by Nutro.There were many pets that did’nt make it and this was 2008 after the food poisening scare.I called the company and they ignored everyones concerns.I found 2 websites http://www.consumeraffairs .com and http://www.petnblog.preciouspets.org.They have covered the illnesses and deaths of this brand and others.I then started to check out like you did the best I can buy so this never happens again.I came to like the ingredients in Halo pet food as this is an all natural food.My dogs are a success story with their beautiful coats,bright eys and generally all over health.I wish people would come to realize the extra couple of dollars they spend on a good quality foor in the long run will actually be cheaper due to healthier animals and less on the vet bills.Good question
I honestly don’t know what to believe anymore. With the tainted dog food a while ago and now this – maybe I’ll just stick with making their food myself. That way I know EXACTLY what their eating!

That’s what everyone thought about the tainted wheat gluten in dog food a while ago – it may have ultimately been made in the USA, but they were getting some of their ingredients from overseas. Who knows where they’re getting their other ingredients from? I have a big trust issue with commercial dog foods since the dog food scare and like I said – I don’t know what to believe anymore.

Listen, people like you who cite faulty research as if they knew it all give everyone else who cares about nutrition a bad name. I too care about what my dog eats, and like yours, he has skin problems due to allergies. He eats California Natural now, due to the quality natural and limited ingredients. I do believe Blue Buffalo is probably better than grocery store brands and all, but bullying people to switch their pets to your brand is just not a smart thing to do.
First of all, you are believing too many unproven theories you found online. What does your vet say about all this? Another problem with your “thesis” is that your math is awful. You cannot compare the price of a 30 pound bag to the price of a 8 pound bag. Price per pound is what matters, and obviously the price per pound goes down when you get larger bags. You must compare the price per pound by dividing the price of 30 lbs of BB and 30 lbs of Purina. In any case, that is fairly irrelevant anyway because obviously a better ingredient list will be more expensive no matter how you slice it.
Dog owners should do the best they can, and feed the best they can afford. Bullying people like this is counter-productive. Also, some dogs do not do well in the premium foods (mine did horribly on Wellness) so everyone should feed whatever works best for their own dogs.
I really don’t believe what you are saying. You are spreading lies. Yes Purina is bad but it doesn’t kill 87 percent of dogs. Are you kidding me. How could the dog food industry hide the fact that their food is kill 87 percent of dogs? The dog industry can’t even hide that some of their food is tanted which is why they do recalls. Please stop spreading lies.
I fed purina pro plan for many years, dogs did okay on it, but, I was having lots of problems with ear infections, skin dis-orders and the like.
I started feeding a mix of Canidae, taste of the wild and blue buffalo about ten years ago, infections cleared up, skin and coats are GREAT, and my dogs are living longer! BONUS!
