A single protein based food for allergies in dogs:
-California Natural
-Wellness
-Natural Balance
I feed California Natural dry (Herring and sweet potato) and Innova EVO canned – also single based proteins – venison, lamb, rabbit, duck

a good quality food of fish and potato/sweet potato is what many use for dog with allergies. i have a client dog and that is all he can eat, regular food gives him sores in his mouth and throat.

it depends on what your dog is allergic to
best bet is to stick to a veggie diet and nothing that contains wheat, corn and soy.
-natural balance: is really good
-so is: wellness, california natural, or by nature.
as for the wet foods, you’ll have to keep an eye on what it contains. or you can simply make your own. search online for a variety of recipes.
good luck

Depends very much on what the dog is allergic to! Not much point getting a corn free brand if the dog isn’t allergic to corn – corn allergies are not as common as people seem to think.
You could get a brand which has as few variety of ingredients as possible, but best thing to do is find out exactly what the dog is allergic to. This can be done either by a process of elimination, or you can get a vet to do a particular blood test – not cheap – which narrows down exactly what substances the dog is allergic to. They can then advise on a diet that doesn’t contain these thing. This blood test also uncovers other sources of allergens like different plants and insects. If the dog is allergic to things other than food, this can be treated with specially prepared injections; like an ‘allergy vaccine’. The only treatment for food allergies however is avoidance.

I feed my “allergy dogs” both California Naturals. Neither of them itch anymore, both have beautiful coats again, and are feeling great. This food has only 6 ingredients in the dry formula (the least of any commercial dry food-less ingredients mean less chance of an allergic reaction). There are several formulas available(dry/canned-different protein sources). I’d recommend this food to anyone…it’s a high quality product made by a company that I can trust.
