There are no “shots” for fleas that I know of. Your DIL needs to give you the EXACT NAME and manufacturer’s name of the product, so you can contact them and ask THEM what’s in their product.
There’s no way WE can tell you since we don’t know the product.
YOu also need to show this to your doctor and discuss it… not with the helpful, but not as fully educated masses at YA. -!-

Then you don’t need a vivid imagination to appreciate the effects that these chemicals have on your dog. We are advised to give them chemicals to prevent fleas. Worming tablets when they haven’t got worms and an injection which contains a huge amount of nasty chemicals to prevent parvo etc.,
This has always concerned me, I am sorry about your allergy. I will copy and paste the ingredients which I use to prevent fleas; hopefully this will also prevent your allergies. I will also copy and paste the info on homoeopathic nosodes which I use to prevent Parvo etc.,
I have had several dogs who were ill after I gave them worming tablets. Then a very experienced dog owner asked me why I gave my dogs worming tablets if they did not have worms. He said that if a dog had worms that it was apparent in their stools. Nevertheless I take a stool sample to my vet and the results will establish if my dog has worms.
After owning dogs for many years I have come to the conclusion that vets are too influenced by the companies who manufacture drugs. Neither the vets nor the drug companies will profit if we use kind methods to protect our dogs. I do not need to economise on my dogs, however I object to the rubbish that we are told to give to them.
KIND FLEA TREATMENTS
There are lots of treatments for killing and preventing fleas, they are full of nasty chemicals and they are expensive. I make up a solution for my dogs which prevents fleas, although it is also said to kill fleas I have no experience of this because my dogs have never had fleas.
At the outset it may be expensive to buy the ingredients, however they will last for years. Use a few drops of Citricidal and essential oils of Citronella, Tea Tree and Lavender. Add this to half a pint of vinegar or water and sponge a small amount onto your dog’s coat. I use this about twice a week.
HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT TO PREVENT PARVO ETC.,
Before I bought my puppies, the breeder gave them their first shots (injections to prevent Parvo virus etc.,) I have read so much about the dangers of annual shots that I opted out many years ago. Instead I use homeopathic nosodes every month. It’s like giving them one twelfth of the doze that they are given annually by the vet. Homeopathy is cheap and its kind.
At the outset there is a loading dose, if you decide to opt for homeopathy you will be given the instructions. I order mine from Ainsworths in London Telephone 0207 935 5330 or from Helios 01892 537254. If you are outside of the UK there will be a different prefix. I have checked and both of these companies deliver worldwide for an additional delivery cost. In the UK, a phial which lasts for years, costs about £10. Ask for the instructions and information as to how to administer homeopathic remedies.
I don’t need to do this as a cost saving exercise; I am simply frightened about giving chemicals to my dogs.
If your own GSD doesn’t provoke allergies and this pup does, it is probably something put on his skin or hair that is setting you off. It could be a grooming product, a flea powder, one of the spot on treatments (Advantage, Frontline), etc. Get their vet’s phone number from them and ask him/her yourself exactly what has been done to the dog. A shot given under the skin or into a muscle shouldn’t give you a contact allergy from being around him. Find out what has been done with his coat and skin. THat will probably be your answer. It may be that he’ll need a good bath from a professional groomer to get all of it off him.
Are you serious? Information would help, how old is your dog? There is no flea shot so are you referring to it’s vaccinations or a flea treatment that is put at the nape of his neck not under the skin. You could have an allergic reaction to a certain ingredient in flea control products. There is a once a month pill that is around $25 that last a month on flea and tick control. I use this with my Pit Bulls. But if your puppy just got shots, I’d say your more likely to be allergic to something blooming around your area at this moment, allergy season dear. Benadryl, OTC.
It’s German SHEPHERD, dear, and as far as I know, there is no such thing as a flea shot. Time to call the vet to find out what exactly was administered to the dog and if it could cause a reaction in people. Also, a visit to your own human doctor who specializes in allergies is in order.
Vaccines, administered under the dog’s skin… could affect someone HOW? Think it over and call the vet and doctor.

There is no such thing as “flea shots”, you are very confused.
While it is possible to have allergies to dogs, or any animal,
what you are describing and blaming on mythical “flea shots” is nonsense.
If you don’t want the dog, please contact a breed rescue while the pooch is still young and cute and see if they can find him a good home.
I suspect you will all have mysterious allergies after the dog is gone, but please don’t keep him if you are going to blame him for them, he deserves better.
Dorothy – you incredibly ignorant bias about vets has got nothing to do with the fact that there is no such thing as a “flea shot”.
You are using the question as an excuse to go off on a tirade about the usual “holistic” “natural” vs. chemical b.s. that is so ridiculous it has gotten tedious. For hundreds of years, people have used home made, natural, holistic, non-toxic, etc.
flea remedies — and dogs have always had fleas.
Maybe you want to live with fleas, and dose your dogs with “natural” poisons (yes, lots of that around), but for the overwhelming majority of us whose dogs are flea free and just fine on name brand topical liquid flea preventatives every month, Advantix or Frontline Plus are the answer to not ever having to live with fleas again.
