You need to find the money. Go without something yourself so you can pay for a vet visit. Borrow from family. This dog needs to see a vet.
The responsibility of dog ownership includes vet attention when needed.
This condition will get worse and cost you a lot more to treat the longer it goes on. Plus the fact that your dog is very uncomfortable and is relying on you to help him.
Imagine if your hair was falling out and you were driven mad with the itching. Would you see a doctor?
There is no reason in this day and age why dogs should have fleas, there are plenty of products available to prevent flea infestations.
The dog could be suffering from mange.
Even if you don’t have the money to take him to the Vets, at least buy some Advantage or Front line Top Spot to kill the fleas that are on him and hopefully kill any fleas that continue to jump on him. You can purchase these flea products at a Vets office or online. The good thing about Advantage is the medication stays on the end of the hair follicle so when the hair falls out it will continue to kill fleas in your house if your dog comes inside. Of course you could get some flea shampoo or flea soap and give your dog a bath. You could kill the fleas that are on him but that won’t do anything for fleas that continue to get on him.
It is silly to treat his skin if you don;t get rid of the fleas!!
Good luck and I sure hope your dog is comfortable soon as summer has just begun.
Is he a boxer? I have a boxer and he is loosing a lot of fur. The vet’s say it’s boxer induced baldness. They gave us some allergy pills. My friend once had a black lab who was allergic to corn, he’d go bald every corn season. You should take him to the vet.
I have 2 dogs that lose hair due to allergies to weeds in the yard (poison ivy as well) make sure the weeds are under control.
I also just found out that the treats I am giving them causes itching (Alpo Snaps) Yikes!
If he has flea allergies then thats your problem. There are special shampoos that will help his itching but to really stop the problem you need to treat the fleas. get some frontline from you vet.
He is losing his fur because of the summer. All dogs shed some of their hair so they will be cooler.
he may have mange be very carefull because you may get it.
