Unfortunately, de flea treatment from pet shops and supermarkets is never as effective as veterinary products. A common problem is that people tend to deflea the animal then shove them outside for the rest of the day, when really, the animal needs to be in the house so that the fleas in the carpets and skirting boards etc can jump on the pet, bite, then die. During the flea life cycle, the develop into pupae, these pupae cannot be killed by any type of chemical and they can lay dormant in your house until they are stimulated by heat and other things. This is why suddenly you have deflead your pet and after a week or two, they can come back. To stimulate the pupae to hatch, you need to hoover vigorously(the vibrations will stimulate them) and also place damp towels on radiators ( humidity will stimulate them), so when defleaing your pet, use the product, and try and do what i have said to stimulate the pupae if it is an ongoing problem, shortly after you have deflead your pet, this should encourage all the fleas to jump on your pet and die. Although i do recommend going to your vet for defleaing treatment.
Be careful when using over the counter flea medication or prescription medications. These all contain chemical insecticides that can cause liver damage to both you and your dog. I use Canine Target Spray for Fleas because it is an all-natural alternative. It is a highly effective insect repellent, which discourages dog fleas from nesting on your best friend. http://www.petwellbeing.com/dog-fleas-p6…
The first step in keeping fleas off your dog is to keep your dog’s living area clean. Fleas hide in carpets, so be sure to vacuum regularly. Dog bedding and blankets should be washed regularly.
Regular application of Canine Target Spray is extremely helpful in controlling fleas. It is effective both at eliminating fleas already present, and as a preventative measure (discouraging new fleas from nesting on your dog).
Hi do u give him the flea med as ordered? Where does he sleep outside or in. If he sleeps inside you probably have fleas all over and you will need to bomb your house or have an exterminator come in. What probably is happening is he is reinfecting himself constantly with them. If he sleeps outside in a dog house you need to wash the blanket in hot soap, bleach and water and dry in hot heat. Then scrub out his dog house really well. Good Luck fleas are a pesty little varmit.
The best way to get rid of the current fleas is to give him a bath and pick them out. Fleas are easier to catch when the dog is wet b/c they don’t like water so they are more likely to be immobile. I would suggest getting the vet flea medication. Try going to a vet pharmacy supply place where you live. It’s much cheaper. If you can’t afford that, I would suggest going up a size on the current flea medication. For instance my dog is a 10-15 pound dog and we were using flea meds for that size dog. The flea meds stopped working so we went up to the same brand flea med but in a 20 pound dog. It worked. Good luck!
advantage is cheaper at the feed store its 17.99 and you can break down the large dog size to 1.0 in a needless syringe applied to the back of his scruff to make 3 months instead of 1 month our vet at the spca told us this because we have multiple dogs
Go to your vet and get Comfortis. It is a chewable tablet, it is not expensive and it starts working immediately. Give flea prevention once a month without fail.
What you are using is obviously not working.
It sounds like you have a flea problem in your home. Call a certified pest company and have the living area treated. Spend the money on the “expensive vet stuff”. The dog relies on you for his care.
You treat the dog AND the house, and possibly the yard or they will KEEP coming back because you are using cheap crap that works 50% of the time and is probably poisonous to dogs.
local pet store /look 4 kennel dip with permythician.Dip twice then keep 1 teaspoon of vinegar in her drinking water ,this will make the female fleas sterile, hence no eggs
Same thing with my cat
I took her to the vet the other day and got her medicine. It wasn’t expensive.
you need to flea bomb your house and wash the dog with flea shampoo
