I just had a woman knock on my door and ask to take my 9 week old lab puppy home, claiming she is a dog trainer and she would bring her back fully trained. I pointed to my other lab and told her I did a pretty good job training him and that I would soon be working with my puppy. She then proceeds to tell me that my older lab isn’t trained and that I was a liar. I unhooked him from the cable, showed her he could sit, give high five, fetch, lay, roll over, and “wait for it”. She said that since he jumps when he’s on a cable(my back yard isn’t fully fenced) he isn’t trained at all, and asks again if she can have my puppy, this time, saying my puppy is infested with fleas because she was itching so much. When I say no AGAIN, she tells me if she see’s her outside, unattended again, she is taking her home and not going to bother to ask. I didn’t get her name, and she isn’t from my neighborhood, her son is working on my neighbors house and she drops him off, but the project is almost done so….
Ok, first off, NO she cannot have my puppy. 2nd, BOTH of my dogs are on Revolution for heartworms and flea/tick prevention, they have allergies and I give them benadryl. Today has been a hectic day with my 4 month old nephew over (hence why the dogs were outside in the first place), and I forgot to give them todays dose, which explains why she would be itching. They are both UTD on shots, Revolution, everything. Last time we were at the vet was last Thursday, and they have to go again on the 28th for their Bordetella booster since we recently had them borded and had that vaccine started.
MY QUESTION, is what to do about her saying she was going to steal my dog? I can’t always be outside with them, well I can, and I used to, but they like to be outside on nice days, and even though I’m home alot of the time, I work online and can’t sit outside with them 24/7 to make sure nobody steals them.
Advice anyone?
Ps. I know the cable isn’t the best thing for a dog, but as I’ve said, my yard isn’t fully fenced. I do periodically check on them(about once or twice an hour) and make sure they aren’t wrapped up, that they have fresh, cold water, and to give them a bit of attention.
