the irritation causes his skin to be very red and is now developing some scabbing. he has been to the vet numerous times.. checked for mites, fleas. has been on steroids and the irritation gets a little better, but as soon as he finishes the cycle the irritation gets worse again. he has lost the hair on his neck bc he scratches it so much. could it be his diet? or allergies? please help!

could it be his collar bothering him? Try a collar made from a different material.
my cat had an irritation like that….he was on steroids for 9 months off them for 4 then on them again for 6 to finally get under control what he had….sometimes it takes more then one round to cure it
try removing his neck collar and going with a harness style over the legs & chest for a while so it is away from his neck but you can attach his tag to it
Sounds like collaritis – a disease of the neck. I recommend an immediate radical collarectomy. With the proper care, your dog will survive, and the procedure can be done at home by any experienced handler. No cutting or anesthesia necessary.
Dont take it to the vet, take it to the groomers, they will give you special shampoo to wash it with and it should clear up
When was the last time you washed his collar? Or whatever he might be wearing… Even some metals can cause reactions. Try a harness instead of any thing around his neck. Poor guy…Best of luck and get well ASAP!
if he wears a collar it might be that or it might be what you wash the collar with like the soap you use on the collar itself?
By any chance is the rash all the way around the neck, like a ring?
It is probably his collar.
it could be an alergic reaction to the food your giving him or something
collar tightness, or material
or alergies?
good luckk
Does he wear a collar? he could be allergic to that
u might take to a groomers first but if they say it could have mange TAKE TO THE VET!!!!!
