My Dog Is Shaking/tremors Help!?
Ok so I will start from the begining to help you guys answer this question better. We have a 2 year old shitzu (girl) who weighs 12 lbs. Last week we noticed her constantly itching, scratching, licking and nibbleing at herself. She has of course scratched before but this time it was nonstop. Her hair was long so we figured maybe she was getting her new coat or dry skin from the weather changing. I made a groomers apointment and she got shaved down, and that night I noticed she continued to scratch, lick, and bite and I picked her up and noticed a spot on her thigh/leg that was blood red from her scratching. It freaked me out so the next day I called and made a vet appointment.
I took her to the vet and explained the itching and constant scratching and told her she had never scratched herself so much before. We live in an apartment complex so when she goes out one of us are always with her and she doesn’t go into any wooded area. The vet said she wasn’t sure what could have caused the constant scratching, so she’d just treat it. She didn’t think it was allergies cause her whole body wasn’t red and her skin (other than the area she licked and bit the crap out of) looked normal. Yes she has her flea med on (we give her K9 advantix). So the dr gave her a steroid shot to stop the itching so she wouldn’t scratch and then she gave me antibiotics for the infected licked area and a spray. The steroid is called Vetalog 6 mg, the antibiotic is Clavamox 125 mg, and the spray is Gentocin Topical Spray 120 ml. So three days after the vet visit we noticed that Margo was trembling when she was laying down. We figured she was cold (since she just got shaved down), so I put her in one of her tshirts, wrapped her in a blanket, and turned the heat up in the apartment and she was still trembling. We couldn’t figure out what was going on, and the weird part is when she is outside she doesn’t tremble and she played for a bit and she wasn’t trembling. She only trembled when she was in a relaxed state. She was eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping normally. So Monday morning I called to find out if it was a side effect from any of the meds especially the shot. The vet told me that her trembling shouldn’t be a side effect of any of the meds and it’s a good sign that she is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom normally.
So last night we took her over to a relatives house and there were 5 or 6 people over there with another dog, and she didn’t shake and played and acted normally. The second we got home and she laid down she began to tremble again. It starts in her butt and can sometimes go up to her head. She is still eating and acting active if she sees other dogs or if we take her outside but when she lays down she trembles. I stopped giving her the meds yesterday and she wasn’t acting like this the first 2 days after the vet it began the 3rd day.
What is going on with our dog???? We hate seeing her like this and feel so bad for her. Could it be a bad reaction to the meds or is it her way of showing she is just bummed out and doesn’t feel good?
