What Is Going On With My Dog’s Skin?
about three weeks ago we picked my dog up from the kennel. she was there for almost 4 weeks. Well they bathed her but didn’t brush her. about a three or four days later she started scratching. I checked for fleas and no visible signs. I used a topical flea and tick and it seemed to subside. then a week or so ago, as I was petting her I felt scaly scabs on her chest, underside (almost puss), side and top of neck. I don’t see any parasites, do you think it is an allergy to the shampoo they used or could it be bites from other dogs in the kennel? the scabs are in areas she can not reach herself. I can’t get her into the vet until late next week (military vet). any suggestions to make her feel better? BTW, she is eating/going as normal.thank you

At first I was thinking it was dry skin, but scabs are pretty abnormal. It could be sores from being in a kennel for 4 weeks without much room to move. Kind of like how patients that are immobile can develop bed sores. I would ask who ever is in charge of the kennel. Most shampoos only cause dry skin/rashes.
To make her feel better, I suggest she doesn’t lay on hard surfaces and just wait until a vet can look over it.
Best of luck!
I think you should go to the kennel and ask what’s going on…it might be ringworm but we never know. Check with a vet just to be sure since we can’t tell you exactly. It MIGHT just might be a reaction…we never know.
It is probaly just an allergic reaction to the shampoo, thanks for making an appointment to the vet.
Bets wishes, and Good Luck!
Could be many things depending on the area you recieved the dog from. Could be whats called Demodectic Canis. Or also known as Mange. The mites burrow in the follicles and create intense sensations that make them scratch nonstop. Even in hard to reach areas, they get scaly and scabby. The best thing to do for your dog is leave it be. Anything you put topically can irritate it further and you don’t want that to happen. The vet will give you appropriate medication when you get in to see her that will take care of the problem.

Could be several things. It is impossible to diagnose over the internet. You should take your dog to the vet. Find out what he/she says. If it is allergies then you might want to try adding fish oil to your dog’s diet. Fish oil will take at least a week or two help out. Also until you see the vet, you might want to try some Hydrocortisone spray. They have it at most pet supply stores. Harz makes one that we have used from time to time. It is only a temporary fix so get your dog into the vet as soon as you can next week. Good luck
