I have a 1 1/2 year old yorkie and she has been scratching herself A LOT lately, much much more that usual. I thought she just needed her flea medication again so I gave it to her about a week ago and she is still constantly scratching and gnawing at her paws. I just noticed a couple days ago that on her legs and paws she has spots where she has literally chewed all of her fur off! I’m really scared for her. I have this no-chew spray that I tried using on her but it didn’t help. I have heard that when dogs excessively lick and gnaw at their paws it normally means they have allergies, do you think that’s what’s wrong? If so do I need to take her to the vet for a medication or could I just find something at the pet store? Please anyone give me your thoughts.

Most likely it is allergies. Do you get her groomed often? Make sure you use hypo-allergenic shampoo or medicated. Anything with oatmeal is good. If you bath her make sure you rinse REALLY well. Is there anything in the grass that might give her a reaction like weed killer? Switching her food may also help. Buy food with no corn, wheat, or by-product. Wellness is a brand I highly recommend and use for my allergy dog. You can buy it at Petco but it is pricy. Iams healthy naturals is a lower cost and good alternative. If that doesn’t help, you may want to take her to the vet. Good luck!

Have you changed her food recently? If you have she might be allergic to something in the food. New carpet, rug? Any changes? Shampoo, cloth toy? The vet can give you the best advise on how to treat her. California Naturals is a good dog food for allergic dogs.

That sounds like what do with me excima, egsmia, however you spell it. Except I don’t chew my skin off! Don’t panic, it’s either that or an allergy to a rug in your house, a new rug. Or maybe the food you give her. It could really be anything, go see a vet.

All animals inherently suffer from fleas and this affects their behavior. Make sure puppy is clean and use http://bit.ly/ybJlb (the fuminator) on regular basis. I use it on Pluto and it works wonders

Might be food allergies. Try switching her food and see if that helps. Make sure if you switch her food you do it very slowly so she doesn’t get an upset stomach.

Sounds like severe alergies so a visit to the vet would be in order. Could be some thing entirely different. Only a vet can tell you.

this might be weird but she might have eczema…..you should take her to the vet to check.

Sounds like it could be allergies.
    Food allergies are not uncommon.
What do you feed your dog?

Ahhh…that might be the problem, then.
Purina is not a very good quality food.
I would change her over to a simpler food without corn or soy, maybe without grains, if possible.
I foster a dog who has food allergies.
I feed her Flint River Ranch Trout and Potato, and that works well for her.http://www.flintriver.com/ProductInfo.as…
