My 2 Month Old Puppy Is Coughing?
I have a 2 month old Maltipoo. He started coughing and sort of gagging yesterday… His cough sounds dry and sort of like he his trying to “cough something up”. He isn’t constantly coughing though just once in a while and he is very active and eating/drinking well. We recently took him to a first visit with his vet and they gave him a shot and flea/tick med and said everything looked fine. That following weekend we went over to a family members home, but our pup did not come in contact with any other puppies/dogs but was outside in the yard and walked around the neighborhood and now he has this cough/gag. I am going to be calling the vet today and try to take him in asap. I have been reading about kennel cough? or even allergies? Any suggestions?

As others have said, It does sound as if your pup has kennel cough.
It certainly is scary to hear your pup coughing as thou something is caught in his/her throat.
Kennel cough is air born and highly contagious. Just taking your pup to the vets office can infect your pup. Even if you do not have them close to any other dogs.
Dogs can also get kennel cough after receiving the vaccination. Just a humans can get a mild form of the flu after getting a flu shot. As with the flu shot the kennel cough vaccine is a live virus and there is always the chance of developing a mild form of what the vaccinations is for.
The first vaccination is a nasal spray followed up a few weeks later with an injectable vaccine.
The signs of kennel cough can be seen 2-14 days after the exposure.
If your pup does get diagnosed by your vet as having kennel cough they will more than likely put him on an antibiotic.
Kennel cough usually lasts approximately 14-21 days.

Update;
When you go to the vets office, let them know a head of time the symptoms that your pup is having and that you think he may have kennel cough. This way they can make arrangements to not have others dogs in the area to be infected.
As for when your pup is examined by the vet…they of course will do a regular exam and then to check for the kennel cough the vet will manipulate the pups throat (externally) with his/her hand and will cause the pup to cough. From the sound of the cough they can determine if it is kennel cough. They may also do a blood test.
Also a side note …. Until your puppy has had its second set of shots at 12 weeks old you should not take the pup outside of your home or property as the pup can pick up diseases from other dogs and or their droppings who have not been vaccinated. A pup just walking on another dogs fecal droppings can become seriously ill as well as in some instances (such as parasites) can pass it onto the human family members

Sound most like Bortadella~ kennel cough.
Puppy often pick up from kennel or vet office even if vaccinated.
Our dogs got it from vet office visit. They been vaccinated for it before though.
Is very common but sound so bad. Like dog gag on someting and almost throw up. It very contagious so CALL vet first if you tink you want to bring dog in.
Dog usually recover by self in 2 week.
Your maltese / poodle mix needs to be seen by a vet.
It could be kennel cough or anything else for that matter. Our puppy when he was younger started coughing (or really hacking) one evening. It sounded like he was trying to “cough something up”…about an hour later he did…he ate some string (god knows where he found it) and hacked it up.
he could have kennel cough go to the vet! there is a vaccine against it. i don’t know if they can catch it again after they have had it once. if they can get it more than once just keep getting him the kennnel cough vaccine once a year. my puppy never got kennel cough because i got her the vaccine, its a spray they put up their nose.
Well kennel cough is air borne, so your puppy did not need to come in contact with another dog per say. It would be best to get it checked out by the vet. I could just be an allergy, but if not taken care of it could lead to respiratory issues.

Did you acquire him from a dirty Kennel or puppy mill that doesn’t properly vaccinate?
ADD- if your pup has Kennel Cough, the VET will probably prescribe Antibiotics.
Sounds like kennel cough, which is a very common illness that dogs can pick up whenever they are around other dogs. It’s not usually serious, but can sometimes require antibiotics, so get him to the vet.
Kennel cough, probably. My puppy got it a little around when we first got him too. Take him to a vet and make sure!
Hairballs? Take him to the vet. Our cat has been coughing and trying to throw up a lot lately, and we just found out she got worms. In her lungs. Yuck…
