Can I Give My Pug Pedialyte?

Both of my pugs have had a really bad diarrhea bug, they don’t have worms or anything like that, they are on monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks, worms, etc….and one of them is not over it yet, I’m afraid he will get dehydrated, even though he is still drinking his water. I have read that it is okay to give dogs Pedialyte, but pugs have quite a few food allergies. Does anyone know if they can tolerate Pedialyte, if so…how much do I give them, what kind works best?

If the one has had diarrhea for more than 48 hours, a vet needs to be consulted. If he becomes overly dehydrated, it could trigger a massive seizure that could cause serious brain damage. Dehydration can also cause kidney problems.
Call your vet. Explain the situation. Ask if either or both dogs need to come in. Ask how much, if any, pedialyte you can give until he’s seen.
I have given it to my Pug. However, you need to find the source of their loose bowels. Any recent food changes, pesticids used in the yard? If you have concern regarding dehydration, there is a way you can tell. If you pull up on the skin on the back of their neck, if there is dehydration, it will not snap back immediately….if they are still adequately hydrated, it’ll snap back and they’ll be fine. But, to answer your question, yes, they should be fine. I just put it in the water dish for a few hours and let them drink it at will.
Vet visit, ASAP. If she’s not eating, it might prove to be a blockage of some kind, either in her stomach or in her intestines. Have you changed her food recently? It might be that she’s adjusting to a new type of food and isn’t feeling too good.
You can offer some unflavored Pedialyte with a little chicken broth added but leave the plain water available also.
Unflavored Pedialyte should be fine for your dogs. Their is a stomach virus going around. Your babies will be better soon. Good Luck!
Yes you can give a dog pedialyte. I give my dogs this at shows mixed with their water to keep the hydrated.
No,it would probably only make the diarrhea worse. Boil some boneless chicken & rice.
