Taking My Dog To The Vet Tomorrow But Want Opinions Now?
My dog has red inflamed ears from what I thought was food allergies but I’m not sure. Well now I noticed he has little sores under his right eye under his hair it almost looks like a rash. You can’t even tell unless you look real close but they are definitely there! Is this still allergies or something more? Lately he has been rubbing his face on the carpet as well as shaking his head because his ears are bothering him. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow morning. I am worried would love to have as many opinions as possible. Thanks so much!!!!
FYI he does not have any fleas and I switched him from Iams Puppy to Wellness Adult hopefully this will help but I have a feeling he is going to need regular medication

lt does sound like allergies, but the marks on his face could just be from scratching at his ears and catching his face instead, also rubbing his face on the carpet could cause them.
My Lab suffers from allergies and this causes recurrent ear infections, plus inflamed hot spots (areas of irritation) on her skin where she scratches and nibbles.
Antihistamine tablets help and also an antiseptic spray that helps to cleanse and soothe the hot spots.
Dogs can be allergic to many different things, Milly’s allergies are to dust and also seasonal allergies, similar to hay fever. The vet can run tests to determine if it is an allergy and what to.
It may be a yeast infection. A lot of dogs get this in their ears and it also will drain out by their eye, causing tear stains. Your vet can usually tell if it is a yeast infection by the smell, and can give you an antibiotic and/or ointment for the infection. Also, this can be caused by food allergies, so you may want to change his food. Dog food with corn is a big culprit because a lot of dogs are allergic to it.
What you are describing sounds almost identical to my Samson’s condition right after we adopted him. I was worried because he kept rubbing his eyes and ears on things and trying to scratch them with his paws. Anyways, the vet seemed confident it was allergies and prescribed him an allergy medicine and it all cleared up very quickly. Its good you are taking him to the vet, but I wouldn’t be too worried about it!!!
PS-Wellness is a great food and I am sure that will contribute to him feeling better!!
Vets exam can top any advise that we give you. The ears may be an infection or ear mites. It sounds like your dog may have a food allergy, but in a weakened immunity is susceptible to other things. Medicine like steroids or benedryl can help allergy but doesn’t cure it. I had to go all grain free for my dog.
i dnno but hope he gts better
My dog has had ear problems and skin allergies since he was about 4 months old. I have tried a number of different foods and have found that a dog food that has fish as the source of protein and no wheat or corn works wonders. Although some will say purina dog foods are crap, my dog has done well on Purina proplan and proplan selects with salmon and brown rice. Both have salmon as the protein source and no wheat or corn, but you will just have to use trial and error because some of the high dollar dog foods did not help my pet. I could have continued to give him shots of steroids or benedryl for his allergies, but he has very few flare ups since he has been on proplan.
