What’s going on with my Pom?

Question by steve_n_nikki7782: What’s going on with my Pom?
I have a 17month old pom and I have to say he is the best dog, we’re working on house training still because when I got him he would have accidents in the house if not watched carefully! Well now that we’ve moved on from that he has this itching issue, we’ve checked him for fleas and he doesn’t have any that we can see or tell! Is there something like a skin allergy that Pomeranians have that I’m unaware of or what? Please if anyone could shed some light, my poor guy itches too much and I want to give him some relief, we brush him regularly and bath him with Flea & Tick shampoo… Any Ideas?

Adopted boston terrier rubs against furniture?

Question by mandy007: Adopted boston terrier rubs against furniture?
Hi all, I recently adopted a Boston Terrier and he’s been rubbing up against furniture and people like he’s trying to scratch an itch….this happens pretty frequently. I gave him a bath as soon as I got him home b/c he smelled bad, so I’m thinking it may be a reaction to the shampoo. (there were no fleas in the bathwater, so I’ve ruled that out)I’ve also done some research and I see BT’s are susceptible to food allergies. The rescue org. I got him from was feeding him Gravy Train (so have I), which doesn’t look like quality food. So now I’m thinking it could be food allergies. Any ideas on whats causing this and what to do about it?

P.S. I’m a first time dog owner, so all of this is new to me.

My 2y/o Black Lab losing Hair?

Question by Sarah Thompson: My 2y/o Black Lab losing Hair?
My black lab has been losing his hair and itching, he is developing sores and he is obviously in a lot of pain. The vet said he had an allergy gave us some pills, and it went away and came back again in the spring. We went to the vet again, got pills and now the pills dont work. We have done flea control and that doesn’t help, he has had a skin scrape and that came back negative. I know its not fleas but the vet swears it is. We’ve changed his food, his shampoo, his treats. Nothing is working. Somebody help me please, I’m worried I won’t be able to help my dog.
I’m resorting to yahoo answers because I’ve been to two vets and I’ve done everything they have told me to do and now no amount of medication, flea treatments, or diet changes works, he is only getting worse.

Q&A: My shitzhu’s cough is getting worse?

Question by Stacy: My shitzhu’s cough is getting worse?
Three months ago I called my vet to get my 9 yr old shitzhu’s flea pills and because she was coughing. I was given the flea pills and antibiotics. Two weeks later, she was not better. I took her in the the vet prescribed more antibiotics and allergy meds. They didn’t work. I took her back again. The visiting vet took xrays (her throat was fine) and she was prescribed more antibiotics and doggie pain pills. They didn’t work. My sister said that my dog might have worms! What the heck?? I’m so confused! She’s coughing like bronchitis, and sometimes mucus comes out of her nose. I gave her worm stuff and it didn’t help. She’s worse. I was up all night with her and have another appointment tomorrow. Does anyone have any advice????

Question by geovannafraga: Help with My beagle’s digestion problem? what diet/food should i follow? wellness/raw diet?
Hello everyone. I am hoping to get some advice on the following issue. I have a beagle puppy (about to be 6 months in April) and he’s had digestion problems all along (i got him from a store… yes i know! the worse thing i could’ve done… but i love him now). Here is a timeline of the different things I’ve tried:

1. The was being fed Eukanuba at the per store. He hated this food, he would not eat it and had diarrhea, and mushy stools. I quickly changed his food to Taste of The Wild. He was 2 months

2. While on TOTW, he could not eat the kibble is was way too hard for him, and he was always sneezing and a scab started appearing on top of his head. So researched and through he might be allergic to this high-protein food. So I got him something that had less protein… so we went with Nutro Natural Choice (chicken and oatmeal for sensitive stomachs) I also added moisted food.. which he does like a lot.

3. He was doing ”good” on this, but he started stinking A LOT. Having horrible gas that could kill anyone in the room. So i decided to feed him better quality food, and I went with Wellness Puppy food. I havent finish the transition yet. I started this week.

I feed him 3 times a day, 1/4 cup each time (vet said this is the amount he should eat). I always give him his kibble with a little wet food (one time i just gave him kibble and he eats it so fast he threw up).
He is also NEVER satisfied and tried to eat everything he can get his mouth on.
I give him treats, probably way too many because he seems to be so hungry all the time. I give chicken fillets from BeefEaters, banana and chicken treats from Wellness. To try to keep his calories down.. i’ve given him banana, carrots, watermelon and apples… is this ok? nothing seems to change when i give him fruits, and it takes him longer to eat it than when i give him “dog treats”.

His stools have never been consistant. He goes hours after eating, and I’ve always read they should be going to the bathroom almost right away? And his poop is NEVER hard, always soft… and is hard to clean up. It has become so STINKY, i almost want to gag. He has also developed a bad body odor (not just regular puppy smell), and his bed/crate stink. I try washing it once or twice a week.

His eating schedule/bowel movement:
– He eats in the morning at 6am and will go poop at around 12-12:30 pm.
– Lunch at 1pm. Sometimes will poop around 5:30-6pm, and sometimes not.
– Will eat dinner around 7pm. If he went to the bathroom at 5:30 – 6pm he wont go again until the next morning. And when he goes to the bathroom… is like 2-3 times, and its A LOT.

I’ve been researching about the raw diet, and i am now wondering if this is what he needs. Or if i should keep him on Wellness.. see if he gets better. Until now, i dont see any change. Should i now be feeding 2 a day? when should i change from 3 to 2?

I dont want to keep switching, and maybe messing him up even more. I am hoping i can get some suggestions.

Are soft stools normal? Caused by the wet food? Should i switch to raw diet? May this help his stomach/bad odor/allergies? (He is always putting his paws in his mouth… licking biting them) He doesnt have any fleas, but he is ALWAYS scratching.

I am sorry if this is a lot, i am (obviously) a first-time dog owner. Thank you for reading.
one quick question, I’ve read to give a raw egg is great for a dog, but… with shell and all? just like that? would he even know ot eat it? or should i open it for him?

I have fed a raw food diet for 14 years, to Yorkies and Border Collies, puppies and adults. They eat what nature intended, which does not include cereals (no kibble) etc. There are some very good books, email lists and web sites that will help you learn and understand about raw feeding.
I am including some links below which IO hope you will find useful.
Well done for taking responsibilty for feeding your dog this way.
