Question by Theresa: Need Some Help With Dog Allergies!!?
I need some help. My dog won’t stop scratching. She doesn’t have fleas and I just switched her food to Wellness whitefish and sweet potato dry food. I think she is allergic to cats. My BF and I moved into a house that has 2 cats. We have been living there for a while now. Someone told me to give her children’s benedryl. She is only 4 pounds does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do, or how much benedryl I should give her? Unfortunately I can’t afford to go to a vet right now. I am going to take her as soon as I can, but is there anything I can do on my own in the meantime?

Give her a bath. I use John Paul oatmeal and tea tree shampoo. You can only get it at Petco

Question by mama of 1: two year old out of control?
okay i need some serious help!! my son is almost two, in less than a week and he is out of control. i would say its been like this since he was born i will kinda give you a really fast update. The night after he was born screamed bloody murder the nurses couldn’t even get him to calm down (i tried breast feeding didn’t produce enough milk though) i didn’t think any thing of it. he was always a crabby baby had to be bounced/rocked to sleep, always spit up, cried for hours he also has had eczema all his life he was put on soy formula which made him projectile vomit so we looked to nutramigen (sp?)and ended up with alimentum (sp?). when he turned one doc told us to try whole milk spit up but for some reason organic milk didn’t make him spit up which the doc and i though was kinda weird. He had a blood test done for food allergy not sure what all was on it but it was milk eggs nuts that kind of stuff all came back negative had another allergy test done the one that’s under the skin for dog and cat.. allergic to both so we said bye bye to the doggies because we did what we thought was best for our son. so any way here we are almost two and he is always on edge so crabby when he wakes up from naps if his toy truck and trailer fall apart its a melt down if the blocks dont go together the way he wants them to its a melt down we have been working on “you need to ask for help” then we will practice saying “help” but he never wants to ask just throw a fit. he is soo attached to me i cant get anything done around the house. he always wants to play outside and right now we have been in the 90’s 100’s and the humidity is bad, if i tell him no its a fit and i mean a BIG fit 30 mins plus when we do go outside he has a mower he loves to push around and he always wants me to walk right next to him sometimes he wants me to hold his hand while he pushes i know this sounds horrible that something like that buggs me but he needs to start being more independent i do it for a bit then i say okay now mommy is going to take a break your doing a great job mommy will watch you mow the rest and he will for maybe a min then be back right next to me pulling on my hand. he has a battery operated truck and if he gets stuck he throws a fit. our doc has even seen one of his fits and even said shes never seen a kid throw a fit that long before my mother has even said its bad. he also wont play by himself i cant get on the computer, cook, clean with out wedging himself between me and the computer desk the counter or anything. i guess im just lost a what to do i know i need to be stern and not give in but sometimes i just want to make him happy i feel hes never happy unless im right there with him. i ran into a forum about a book “is this your child” by Doris Rapp and read a summery and iv always though maybe hes like this because of an allergy but we did test could it have been wrong? i know some of you will say oh hes being two but i just wish i could put a video up of our day you have no idea the majority of our day is having temper tantrums he also will slam his head into the ground, throw, bite, pinch, hit and he does “time outs” he does good with them too, he always says sorry after. i just need to know if any other mothers/father have had this problem and it end up being allergies!! thanks so much! sorry so long!
Thank you both so much I can’t find where I can pick best answer. Every Tuesday he goes with his grandma my MIL to a music play group so I can get stuff done around the house but that’s about it besides playing with friends that come over which doesn’t happen all that much. We have his two year check up Monday so I will deff talk more about allergies we just switched pediatricians and he has been on off brand of zertec for quite awhile now when we first put him on allergy meds we did Claritin and he was a 100 times worse on it I looked up side effects and I read and can have that effect in some people! I will try all the advice thanks so much!

Little by little let him wait for your attention, just a brief wait then extend the time he has to wait, but gradually. Does he go to any play groups? If you stay there while he plays, you will be able to have a rest while he learns to play with other children. The interest in the toys might make him leave your side . Good luck

Question by life: Help with the allergies!?
I just have found out that I have multiple allergies. I am allergic to: dust mite, all kind of dust, feathers, fur of cats, dogs and sheep, demodex mite, fish food (dried), fescue, goose-foot, timothy-grass, couch-grass, wormwood, Indian corn and hogweed.
It affects mostly my eyes. They became puffy, and I can’t open them, and then it spreads all over my face. I have constant eye infections because of this.
I removed most things out of my bedroom, to reduce dust and
consequently mites, but I do not have a lot of money to spend on air filters and a vacuum cleaner with water filters. I wondered what other people did in the similar circumstances.
Where do you buy this special bedding? I found on-line only, and would not want to pay for the shipping. Then, I found some special cleaning products that are supposedly “killing all the dust mite”, is it true, or are they just trying to make money off ill people? And did the special bedding help?
And if you travel and have to stay in a hotel, do you take the bedding with you? And ask them to remove the pillows?

If you give her benadryl, make sure you get the regular kind, not any special flavor, not the liquid, and DEFINITELY not the kind that is meant for colds, flus, etc.
You can give her half of a pill, and if that does not work than one pill (one pill is 25mg). It may make her groggy, so she should be attended to. If one pill doesn’t help her, then you really should get a prescription allergy medication for her. Dogs, as well as humans, should not be given benadryl every day as not only does it make them tired (2 pills and I am out cold haha), but they can become dependant on it (not addicted exactly, but the symptoms will be worse whenever they don’t take it.)

Question by Elizabeth: Rottweiler not eating, what can I do?
My mother owns an almost 9 year old Rottweiler, Samson, that she inherited from my brother, about 8 years ago. For years he has gotten Alpo and Purina mixed together (this was before I knew anything about all the bad things in the food). He has also been accustomed to bread at night after he goes potty. He had really bad allergies, and we went to our veterinarian who gave us pills and sent us on our way. It wasn’t until about three months ago that I learned the common allergens of dogs in foods sold at Walmart and grocery stores.
Within that time, I also switched his food to a premium quality food (i.e. Taste of The Wild, which my Spaniel mix, Jake, is also on). I would have to add some beef stock in there for him to eat it. Well, his allergies quickly diminished and are no longer present.
2 months ago, a cat that Samson grew up with – died. Since then he’s been very depressed. I remember the night we picked up his litter box to throw it out: Samson had just gotten his bread, for going potty outside, and saw us remove his litter box – he immediately dropped his bread and started whimpering. After that, he has slowly been declining; eating less and less each day. Lately, he’s only been eating about 1/2 c. – 1c. of his food. I even tried adding the Alpo, because he’s been losing so much weight… but he’ll only eat a little and then go lay down.
I feel like I’m at a loss here. I only have the money to feed and pay vet bills for my Spaniel mix, Jake; and my mother does not have the money to take Samson to the vet. The good thing is that my fiance’s mother works at the veterinary office I go to, and she can typically get us discounts. So, I’m thinking about pulling out of my savings and taking Samson to the vet. Is there anything else I can possibly do before I take him to the vet? He’s still interested in bread (which he isn’t even supposed to be getting) and treats like freeze dried beef.

Take it to a vet just to make sure everything is okay
