contagious rash?

Question by dawn b: contagious rash?
I have had a rash that is spreading all over my body for a few days now it is really itchy no pain I went to the dr with my mom yesterday and her allergy dr told me that it was something my skin had came in contact with she gave me some lotion and told me to buy aveeno body wash and aveeno lotion and take benedryl. I did change detergents about a week ago i thought that may be it or maybe my dogs came in contact with poison ivy but my husband is not allergic to poison ivy and he is now getting the rash. What could it be. Please help. I did change my detergent back to the old stuff I always used to . Seriously itchy person.

Question by tarra: What else can I give my dog? She has Malassezia Pachydermatis Dermatitis?
I bath my dog twice a week with Malaseb Shampoo. I got my rescue dog 11 months ago, she is 22 months old now. I give her 1 capsule of Candida Clear a day, Duraflora capsules to help keep good bacteria in her gut, brewers yeast, Coconut oil, Cold Compressed Flax seed oil capsules (1 twice daily).

She is an extremely fuzzy eater, I have managed to get her to eat dried food (Petsathome) own make with prebiotics and probiotics, I have to add butchers canned gluten and wheat free tin to it or she won’t eat the dry the food.

The vet is very impressed with her coat and says her skin is doing well. Does anyone know how to keep your dog free of yeast? Any advice in relation to the disease would be appreciated. I give my dog Benadryl 8mg twice a day, they last 8 hours the tablets, these control the itching due to the dust allergy. Is there anymore I can do for my dog? I give my dog Zylkene tablets, these stop her from self harming due to her past anxiety.

she scratches, scratches, scratches what to do?

Question by Carolyn D: she scratches, scratches, scratches what to do?
I am pretty sure it is a food allergy; probably corn or even worse gluten. She has sensitive skin because when we got her (at 7 months old) her coat looked like she had dandruff. She is a black lab so it was obvious she had a skin condition as a pup; her prior owner had her on ekanuba low fat – why put a pup on that? Dogs growing up are like children; they NEED fat in their diet. But you dont want to overdo it, either. I immediately put her on ekanuba sensitive skin, and it took a while to control it. Her vet recommended several things which worked, however, since ekanuba has stopped making sensitive skin, she is scratching herself again crazily and this time I cannot control with the other things I did. She is now on a total fish diet – only omega fatty-3 in the dog food nothing else and this is hard to find – , and I have tried all of the things the vet had me do before, but now cannot control itching, head shaking. Probably yeast infection and will need vet intervention again. Any suggestions?

My cat is licking herself bald?

Question by Ang: My cat is licking herself bald?
My cat Belle is about 8 years old, and I’ve had her since she was a kitten. About 2 months ago, I noticed that she was spending a lot of time grooming herself, and on her belly and between her hind legs she was starting to loose some hair. Since then, she has licked herself completely bald in that area. Not anywhere near the genitals, more along the belly area.

I think maybe it started out that she was itchy like from an allergy and was almost chewing on her own skin to make it stop. But not she just licks herself obsessively and so the hair is not coming back like it should. I did not change food or anything in the time since this started.

I know I could take her to the vet and get her on steroids or something, but I’d like to know if there is something less drastic I could try first. Like, can I rub hydrocortizone (sp?) cream on the affected area to stop the itching? Or what about something that tastes foul that she would not want to lick? Maybe something they use for hot spots in dogs since the condition is kinda like that anyway?

Any suggestions? Anybody had this problem before?
I think I will try the orange peel idea. Can’t hurt, right? But I don’t think I’d try to give a cat a bath. I like my skin intact…

I do agree that an allergy is the likely culprit. But I have not changed anything. Interestingly, when this cat was a kitten she sometimes used to throw up immediately after eating and my vet suspected a food allergy. We tried all the expensive Iams and Science Diet, tried all natural food with no preservatives, even tried cooking people food for her, with no luck. So I just went back to feeding Purina Cat Chow and eventually the problem stopped on its own. Well, sometime she still throws up, but not that often and it’s just something I’ve learned to live with. The vet also tried pills and shots (I can’t remember what it was long ago) with no luck, so we just decided to live with it. I think mostly she threw up from eating too fast because the problem got better when I started feeding her in a different room than my other cat so she didn’t feel rushed.

Your cat is getting older so it’s fur might become more loose. Try to give it a bath and rub the outside of an orange peel against wherever. Most cat’s do not like the smell of that. If your cat just still loses a ton of fur you should take it to the vet. They don’t always give them steriods either so you don’t have to worry about that.

Answer by Jennifer M~ Got the Giggles
I don’t know how to properly stack either BUT I think it would be a good idea to start taking your show training classes with her. That way when you get your other dog, that you KNOW you are going to show, you will have some classes under your belt and a bit more experience.
