Do you have a PetSmart nearby? There is an animal hospital called Banfield. It’s a franchise & their offices are located in PetSmart stores. There is a brand of food they have (no idea what it’s called), but it’s breed-specific. My husband & I were going to get some of it for our Golden Retriever who is allergic to food before we got laid off.
If you can’t find it, try adding The Missing Link to your dogs food. That has helped our Golden tremendously.

My stepson visits every other weekend. He is 7 and often has a bad cough. He has been treated with Albuteral for croup a couple times in the past 2 yrs. Years ago, he was tested and among his allergies was a reaction to cats. So when he is visiting our dog stays outside. Many times when we pick him up after not being around him for 2 weeks he already has a cough. If he eats junk food he gets very phlemy and coughs. His mom feels he has an allergy to our dog. Last time he went home on Sunday and was taken to the doctor on Thursday with the cough she said was caused by exposure to our dog. If it was from the dog, would his symptom be a croupy sounding cough and would it last for several days after he leaves? I think he has food and seasonal allergies. He is overweight and doesn’t go outside much until he visits us and pollen was over 2000 on his last visit. Now she doesn’t want him to visit because of the dog. She has been reluctant to let him visit his dad since I came along.

I brought my dog to the vet 4 weeks ago to try and figure out houw to fix my dogs chewing of her paws and tail region. He first advised to try Benadryl (a few months ago) and that didn’t help so we made an appointment. Since she isn’t too bad off (compared to other dogs and allergies) we decided to start with food trials. She has been eating Purina HA (hypoallergenic) formula for the last four weeks and I haven’t seen any sign of improvement.
Allergy testing is our next step, but I just want to make sure we are giving it the full amount of time to clear up if it a food allergy. Has anyone else gone through this with their dog? The vet said to try this for 6-8 weeks. Did it take that long for you to notice a difference? Or was it faster?
Just looking for previous experiences with this. Thanks!

We think he may be allergic to something else. Are there antihistamines that work for dogs? Our vet seemed to think the only thing to use was cortico-steroids.

Our Lab had hot spots and bumps on her belly. The vet recommended Premium Edge dog food skin and coat. She was cleared within a matter of days. Apparently it is one of the better dog foods. It has the omegas, probotics and healthy amounts of proteins and fats. Because it is such a higher quality, you only have to use a small quantity, which gives you more bang for your buck.
Good luck
