Hi,
I am very disturbed to discover that two out of my three Labradors (inside dogs) have fleas….a disturbing discovery in any case, but particularly maddening given that I have had them on K-9 Advantix since at least March, and have not gone “overdue” in the dosing schedule. What on earth is going on?? I have two dogs with fleas, I had to go away for a couple of days the day after I made the horrible discovery, but bathed the first dog with Adams Flea & Tick shampoo (I didn’t know the other had the fleas, plus I hadn’t needed the shampoo in literally years and only had one dog’s worth in house). I also re-treated everyone with the K-9 Advantix. It seems inexcusable to me that, approximately $36.00 worth of Advantix later, I come home to fleas, fleas, fleas (plus an added bonus of a dog who now appears to have flea allergy dermatitis!) How can I treat my home (we have birds, kids, & fish)? Do exterminators have any edge? Uggh! Thanks in advance fellow dog lovers!

I own Mini Dachshunds. I do give them all flea baths once a month ( 4 dogs) as well as Frontline flea meds on them monthly. I pretty much do everything to prevent fleas getting on my dogs because my male dog is known to be allergic to them. 2 days ago we noticed that whenever touching the male dog ( under his arms) he yelps and snaps at us like he is hurting. Last night he didnt want to be around anyone and kept to himself. He went to sleep in the hallway which is very unusual for him. I picked him up to see what was going on. He yelped but I had to feel to make sure his ribs were ok and everything else. I noticed his lymph nodes under his “arms” were swollen. ( marble size) He also threw up some foamy stuff. My husband took him to the vet today and the vet said he thinks that my dog got bit by a flea and that is what is causing everything. He didnt do bloodwork or anything. They went ahead and put a different medicine on him at the vets office. Could a flea bite cause swollen lymph nodes? or should I call another vet 1st thing in the morning if he is not any better?

Our dog, which is some basset hound mix, has oily skin, has a bad flea allergy AND is allergic to dog shampoo which contains flea killers in it. So far we’ve used Garlic and Brewer’s yeast pills, bathing with baby soap (or dawn or sensitive skin stuff), talc/eucalyptol powder (to relieve itching and swelling) and a spray to relieve itching and swelling (which is made just for animals [forgot the name]). When we remember we do benadryl. He got better for a while on the benadryl with bathing but we realized that bathing him more than once a week dried his skin out. But he STINKS. Like a s s. So bathing is a necessity if we have any desire to keep him inside.
Any combos or something we haven’t tried or something that just needs to be done more than once daily or every other day???
