I think my shih tzu has allergies. I would like to try to change her food first. Right now I am giving her Purina Little Bites with a little Purina Beneful for adult dogs. She is 1 1/2 years old. I am a Purina fan because they have been around for a long time and has never had any tampering problems. Can anyone give me some ideas of what I should try next? Thanks in advance.

I was wondering how likely it is that a person growing up in a home with heavy smokers and being obese as a child results in pet/food allergies and asthma? There is no family history of these conditions, I think his mom has respiratory problems but that’s probably from the smoking. Would there be any improvement with losing the weight and living for some years without being exposed to long term second hand smoke? He’s skinny now and doesn’t have any problems with asthma anymore. I’m worried about bringing pets into a home once we’re married (dogs more than cats, he’s fine with their pet cat right now). He was pretty bad with my dog (a golden retriever). Would a “hypoallergenic” one be ok (not a hairless one)?

I’m very pregnant and in the past month or so, my Beagle has been pooping on the floor in the middle of the night. I have 3 dogs and I know it is her because she has had other problems and has very bad food allergies. She has a dog door that she can go out, and we’ve had her for 2 years and she’s never deliberately pooped on the floor. The other night we were watching a movie and she squatted right in front of the TV to pee. I don’t understand why she is behaving like this. I love her to death, but with the baby coming anyday I am not going to be able to deal with her behavior. It’s getting to the point where I’m going to have to give her away, and the idea breaks my heart. HELP PLEASE!?!?!?!?!
She isn’t pregnant because I got her fixed a few months ago. She’s only 2 years old so I dont think she’s getting too old. She uses the dog door all the time….she runs out it to bark at the neighbors dogs and she doesnt poop on the floor during the day, only at night. I’ve had plenty of blood tests run on her, thats how we figured out that she had food allergies, and she is on special vet approved dog food. Kidney failure would result in peeing on the floor wouldn’t it? And it doesnt make sense why she’d be afraid of the dog door when she is perfectly capable of going outside during the day.

I have a female shih tzu who is 1 1/2 years old, I started out giving her puppy chow, than moved to puppy chow heatlhy morsals which she really liked. Then whenever she got too old for puppy chow I started giving her kibbles n bits, well she likes that ok but she only eats certain pieces out of it, same goes for kibbles n chunks too. So I than bought dog chow healthly morsals b/c it looks just like the puppy chow healthly morsals and she liked it when she was a puppy. Well now she won’t eat that either. So than my husband heard on the radio that you should feed your dog dog food that has lamb and rice or chicken and rice in it which i have also read on here. So, I went to Petco and bought PurinaOne chicken and rice, b/c the lady on the radio said her dog also quit itching and scratching after she switched dog foods and my dog does that alot. Yes she has allergies. Well guess what, she won’t touch that either. I think she doesn’t like the brown pieces. Any sugg. would be appreicated.

We have an 18 month old female dane and have had her since she was 4 months old. She came to us as a fussy eater but in the last six weeks it has worsened dramatically and we are desperate for help. We have been to the vet 4 times in 6 weeks, have had blood work, tests for lyme disease, heartworm, an ultrasound of her abdomen, a biopsy, x-rays and still don’t have a solution. She is about 20 pounds underweight and is continuing to lose weight. With each test comes another tentative diagnosis and suggestion to get her to eat, but nothing is working. She is currently on ZD prescription dog food with some wet food mixed in due to a possible food allergy, but if she eats 3 cups a day we are doing well…she should be eating 8-9 cups a day. We are open to any suggestions…thanks for caring…
