Q&A: What are some egg-free quality dog foods?

Question by Ira K: What are some egg-free quality dog foods?
Hi, we are getting an adult shihtzu in a few weeks. the breeder had him on a raw diet, and we would prefer to put him on a dry food/kibble. the breeder suggested purina proplan or purina one-puppy formulas. i am not tied majorly to any brand, but i do have an egg allergy. does anyone know of a dog/puppy food, that does not have egg products as an ingredient that i could buy in most pet supply stores?
thanks,
ira

What is a good shampoo for a dog with allergies?

Question by Lucy: What is a good shampoo for a dog with allergies?
My dog has really bad food allergies so it makes his skin flaky, we are just starting to get it under control. I was wondering what a good shampoo would be to use since I assume the shampoo would have to be something that didn’t have any ingredients in it that he would be allergic to.

I bought at the feed store a brand called Equys Micro Tec, but it is pretty expensive and it seems to have worked ok, but I want him to smell good too. Whenever I have had him profesionally bathed he smells so good, what types of shampoos do groomers use that I could use at home but would be ok for his skin?

Thank you.
Bama Bully Rescue…. The vet told us it was allergies, because we have been dealing with his ears being horrible for about two years now, they kept saying it was yeast but after being flushed and medicine it just kept coming back, he also has flaky skin on his back.

After his last trip to the vet for his ears the vet said it was most likely allergies because his ears were very inflamed and no infection.

He has been on a food that is Salmon Sweet potato and all organic treats, and his ears have stayed clear, so I am pretty sure the diagnosis was correct because his ears would be back to itching if it were something else since we changed his food.

We make sure there is no corn, wheat, chicken, lamb. It seems to be working, but his skin still has a little bit of flakes but not nearly as bad as it was.

When in doubt, you can always use baby shampoo. Very inexpensive. This is the only human shampoo you should ever use on a pet.

Baby shampoo is too mild to strip oils from your dog. Any vet will tell you that.

It is gentle, sweet smelling and non-allergenic.

It won’t do anything about fleas or ticks. So make sure you do enough submersion to drown fleas, and examine your dog regularly for ticks.

Question by quisp007: Why do my dogs eat the feces from our neighbors’ dog?
I recently changed their food because of probable food allergy that is showing as skin problems. Our vet suggested I feed them a diet with proteins that are broken down. It appears that proteins aren’t digested properly.

Now we’ve noticed the dogs feasting on droppings. Perhaps, they did it before and we’re just noticing it or their diet is lacking in some nutrient.

Can you find out what the neighbors’ dog is eating? That might give a clue. There are a lot of reasons a dog might eat feces; I’ve included a link. Talk to your vet though, if you can’t sleuth it out.
