Q&A: I’m trying to get my dog to eat only dry food and no more wet, but she wont eat dry, help!?
Question by Patricia Caldwell: I’m trying to get my dog to eat only dry food and no more wet, but she wont eat dry, help!?
So I rescued her almost 3 years ago from a shelter and it was obvious her previous owners didn’t feed her dog food because she wouldnt even get close to dog food and she’d hear any noise in the kitchen and be right there wagging her tail.
I was feeding her the Nutro Ultra Holistic Dry food and the Nutro Ultra packets of the wet food but I realized she was licking her paws alot and researched and found out the Nutro Ultra has an ingredient named BEET PULP that causes allergies, ear infections, etc.
Sooo I went more expensive and bought her BLUE WILDERNESS dry food.
She won’t eat it from her bowl and she wont eat it from a plate either i have to put it in my hand or feed them to her individually and when I do, she’ll only eat about a handful.
How can I get her to eat the food from her bowl? And how do I get her too get used to eating just dry food?
Its becoming frustrating because I feel bad she’s not eating but at the same time I need her to eat the blue wilderness because I’ve read it’s really good for dogs.
PLEEEEEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE MUCCHHHH APPRECIATED!
Thank you and God Bless!!! ![]()
I tried mixing the wet and the dry and she would only lick up the gravy and eat the wet and move the dry out of the way.
I’ve been trying to find the right food for her but I decided I’m the boss and she’s gonna eat what I feed her and that will be blue wilderness.
I set the food down for about 20 minutes she’ll sniff it and look at my like saying “are you serious?!” haha. She’ll walk away and ignore the food then when my family sits down for dinner, or if she sees ANYONE in my family chewing (I have 7 people living at my house) she’ll start begging like crazy.
So, I’m out of ideas! I even sit down on the floor with her and try to get her to eat. By the way she’s a maltese, I’ve heard they’re VERY picky eaters, I don’t know if that helps! Thank you!

hi try mixing it with wet food first and slowly wean her off the wet food it may take a few days but if a dog is hungry they will eat it she will be fussy at first but keep trying her don’t feed her by hand or she will never bother with whats in her bowl
