Question by pink_jeens: My Cane Corso eyes is red , tearing & producing mucus?
There’s no Swelling. I’ve been reading about the “cherry eye” & Entropion/Ectropion. My dog’s third lid did not pop out & it’s very difficult to determine her upper lid is curling inward.
Her skin was irritated, so I was giving her Benadryl. (no fleas, mange mites) Her eyes did not form mucus during the two days I gave it to her. Once I stopped, the mucus began forming. Is it possible she may have allergies? I plan on taking her to the Vet this weekend. I am hoping the situation does not get worse in the meantime. I am wondering if any has experienced this issue and if she can wait to Saturday to see the Vet. Thank you
Update: I went to the vet last night & it was Conjunctivitis (Pink eye). I’m relieved it was not more serious. I appreciate everyone’s insight. Thanks so much

If her upper lid is curling inward, the eyelashes could be irritating the eye. This will need surgery to correct.

Question by kelly d: why is my husky biting?
my husky is 15 months old and is biting the fur on the tip of his tail and front legs, he is not biting his skin just the fur but this is causing his fur on his front legs to go a red/orange colour. his bridge on his nose also is a bit pink and is has been scratching that too. i brought some cream for skin problem in dogs and have used that on his nose which has stopped him scratching but is still very pink. when i took him to the vets they said first it could be the tip of his tailing about to drop off!! (on the very tip it looks black, but that could just be the colour of the skin), then that he might have fleas – which i said i have already checked and he doesn’t also i use frontline drops every 2 months, which they came out with then it might be mites or even an Allergy. They told me to change his food from the brand he has been on since he was born (eukanuba) to a brand called wafcol and to cut out his treats and to replace them with carrots. I have done this and still no change apart from he loves his carrots now!! As you can imagine i am really confused to what the problem could be. He is fine in himself, eating playing sleeping, everything a dog should do he does but worse! lol!
yes i am changing my vets!!
i try not to bath him to much but if i have to i use baby shampoo, i dont really like dog shampoo dont trust it (dont ask lol!) he is brushed at leasted once a week, no dont smoke, house is very clean – run round cleaning up after him, esp muddy prints everywhere lol!, yes i do use airfresher, maybe that could be it as i do like a clean fresh home, and i have wooden floors, his bed gets cleaned once a week.

It could be a couple of things, it could be seasonal meaning he could be allergic to the outdoor environment, or it could be food related. I suggest switching to a “grain – free” dog food… I use “Orijen” when my dog had similar symptoms and it helped him tremendously. And for treats, carrots are great, I also suggest fruits like apples, oranges, bananas, but stay away from things like grapes, plums, and kiwi….
Also, how is its exercise schedule? depending on the size of the dog, there should be at least 1-2 hours of daily exercise… and no, tossing a ball through the house is not exercise.

Question by lindy.dimascio: trying to switch dog food?
i have the pickiest bulldog on the face of the earth. he will not TOUCH anything but nutro beef and rice, which i realize is not a high rated food, as it has corn and wheat and beef. he has yeast issues and he licks his feet all the time (itchy maybe? allergy?). i have found 2 higher rated foods available in my area i am considering for my picky little pooper. i’m not confident he will even SMELL them, but i’m willing to at least buy a small bag and try them out. does either one sound better? (petsmart is the only store here that carries *decent* food; the privately owned stores are not reputable.) i am in a backwoods area, so please don’t flame me for shopping at petsmart. i’d kill for my rocco boy

if anyone knows how the foods smell, i think he would prefer the stinkier one
thanks!
when it is not dog food, rocco will eat ANYTHING (salad, ice cream, literally anything that hits the floor). i have found that the worse it smells, the more he likes it. he has no problem with hard food; he has never had wet food and likes the crunch of hard food. mixing new food into old food doesn’t help; he will sniff out the new food, pick it out piece by piece, spit it in the floor, then eat his old food. he has been on the nutro for over 2 years consistently. i *just* read about the corn being a yeast cause and thought i would *try* a new food one more time. i like the ingredients in the blue buffalo (glucosamine should help with his aging joints, although he’s only 4), but i wasn’t sure about the fish. it would just be fantastic if he would actually eat this and it would at least ease some of the yeast in his wrinkles, and maybe get him to chill on the foot licking. thanks!
ok bought the blue buffalo today. rocco sniffed the bag excitedly. i gave him a piece; he rolled it around in his mouth, then spit it out. brat lol. my husband stuck a piece in a handful of his regular food, and the dummy ate it. so i will get him to eat it this week while my husband is gone. he has no choice in the matter lol. i also bought him blue buffalo health bars with apples and yogurt, the treats. he LOVES those. went all nuts on me for them. a little pricey for a regular treat with the amount of treats my husband gives him daily, so it will have to be a special thing
thanks for all the input

Yeah i’ve done that before. But be careful with that. It’s not good to keep switching your dogs diet. But it is okay to do it once or twice, if the food is affecting him/her in any bad way, you should definitely switch the food. so yes you may.
