Q&A: My Dalmation is Scratching His Skin Off?
Question by Aera: My Dalmation is Scratching His Skin Off?
My dalmatian, a previously plump and happy dog who is about seven was recently diagnosed with diabetes. He was very sick and in the process somehow developed a skin problem. My vet is unsure at this point what it is – a food allergy, a side effect of the diabetes, a fungus… etc. He scratches so badly that he bleeds, and it is really bad on his sides, mouth and stomach… where he can reach easily.
Has anyone else had any similar skin problem with their dog, dalmatian or not? What was the diagnosis and were you able to help your dog?

Give him good organic dog foods and I found that lavender oil is a natural soother and bacteria killer so it helps heal the skin and make your dog more comfortable. However, my dog loves the taste of it so it might be better to wrap the area after you apply some oil. Also tea tree and eucalyptus oil helps. But if you don’t want to go natural, there are some hot spot treatments that you can buy at a pet store, they work pretty good but smells really bad and my dog threw up after she licked it…
