Question by Liana Stephens: Why does my dog chew on her paws when she’s resting in bed with us?
It’s only when she’s kind of curled up. She watches her hind paws and then begins chewing on them. She always pulls on them to the point where I I am afraid she might damage her pads or break the skin on her feet. She’ll do this for up to 10 minutes before she finally stops and lays down to sleep. She’s 14 months old, a pound rescue, and has no known allergies.

My dog does that when the fur between her toes starts to grow too long, if this is the case then I usually trim it up and she’s okay for a little while. (She fidgits a lot though while doing it)
I used to have a dog that would spend an excessive amount of time chewing her nails short. Maybe check her feet, perhaps they need to be groomed.

What does this mean for a dog?

Question by rottweilergirl246: What does this mean for a dog?
Last month I switched him from Purina Dog Chow dry food, to Merricks Canned Dog food (Natural) as per suggestion from my vet due to an allergy/sickness my dog had contracted. I am happy to report that my doggy is back to optimal health except he has mushy poop and has been flatulating more than normal in the past 3 weeks. And his poop and farts smell like the food that I give him. What does this mean? I have already left a message for my vet waiting for her to call me back, just wanted to see if someone on Yahoo! knew.
Originally my vet had suggested three different types: Merricks, Solid Gold, and Natural Balance. My dog didn’t like the Natural balance. I tried the canned and the dry, I even tried mixing them. He wouldn’t touch them. I then went to Merricks (if this didn’t work I was going to try Solid Gold), I opened the canned food first and he went at it like a monkey with bananas. I knew we had found a winner. He won’t touch dry food. And ever since he has just been feeling great. No aches, no pain, no dry skin, no rash, no infections. Happy Doggy! :)

It means its a gassy food, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like it!

how can i prevent flea bite allergies?

Question by Miles: how can i prevent flea bite allergies?
I’m super allergic to flea bites, i can’t control the itching, and even when i do prevent the itching i end up scratching in the night. My ankles are THE WORST! cuts and scars and bloody. I just moved in with a friend, because my other living situation was problematic. and my friend has 2 big dogs, and like 5 cats. the house is really old. its more like a library than a house though…lots of books everywhere.
but i’ve also noticed an abundance of fleas. i’ve got bites everywhere. my skin turns a weird purple around the bites too…and im the only one in the house the fleas are bothering!!! its really really bad.
what are some things i can do to prevent the fleas, we’re using flea killer on the carpet, and i also read that wearing a flea collar around my ankle might help. i haven’t seen a doctor about it yet, but my usual allergy meds haven’t helped. and I’m allergic to almost everything. including grass, pollen, bleach, metal…etc. but i wanna be able to wear shorts and not be self conscious about the bug bites all over my legs and ankles. help?

Do Not put a flea collar on you. You will most likely react to it and it is not for use on people. You can try putting salt on the carpet. fleas don’t like salt.try putting anti-ich cream on your skin/bites. Contact your doctor, you may need medication that is stronger then what you have.
