Question by Susie Connelly: Can I safely use Neosporin on my dog?
My dog is scratching a bit more than usual and has now developed several spots that are starting to scab over. I was concerned that maybe he had a food allergy. The spots look really raw because his hair is white in that area and his skin looks REALLY pink now. Should I take him to the vet or just try the Neosporin first?
Thank you

I wouldn’t risk it, I would go to your vet/ nearest pet store and buy pet topical medication instead- just to be on the safe side.

Question by sweetaimers21: Is it likely I developed a new allergy to my dog?
My animals never bothered me, Ive always had pets. But recently Ive been breaking out BAD. Last week I was cleaning and got a dog hair in my eye. It made my eye really irritated and itchy. So I thought oh no biggy… just got a dog hair in my eye. Well since then both eyes have become super itchy and irritated… not only on the inside but underneath and on my eyelids… and to make matters worse my entire face is rough and sometimes burns or is itchy and my skin was always smooth and soft. Did I develop a new allergy to my dog? Or should I be looking for something else? This is very uncomfortable.
I dont wear makeup and havent used anything on my face recently. Just my normal washing with soap… and since this has happened I actually havent even washed my face with anything other than plain water.

it is possible and probable that you have developed an allergy, either to your dog, or something inherent about the dog…..consult your doctor about antihistamines or desensitization.

Question by luvin_life25: My black lab has scratched his fur off his stomach area, around his eyes, and his nose area. Please help!?
I have taken my dog to the vet’s office on three different occasions to have this problem taken care of. It has gotten so bad that he now has broken his skin and is experiencing minor bleeding. My dog was tested for parasites, allergies (I have stopped giving him food or treats which contains red dye), given hydroxyzine to help stop the itching and scratching, and he’s even had shots. I’m at a loss as to what to do. His behavior pattern involves scratching with his paws into his stomach and then he rubs his paws in his eyes and then licks his paws. Has anyone else had this similar problem with their dog? I would like to know what solutions have helped to get rid of it! I keep firmly telling my dog to knock the scratching off and he does temporarily. Then, he’ll be sneaky and go into another room and think that I won’t notice and continue. Love the pooch, but his incessant scratching and licking is driving me up a brick wall.

The dog may have an allergy to something your using in the house such as carpet fresh or the laundry detergent you use on your clothes or possibly to grass. My labs get hive’s in the ears, Vet. has no idea what it could be. Ask the Vet. to run some minor test’s or change Vets. sometimes what one misses another has the solution.

Question by Barb: What is a good non-toxic flea treatment for geriatric cats?
I have two white cats that are 14 years old, brother and sister, and I have had them since they were 6 weeks old. They are indoor cats and the only time they are outdoors is when they go to the vet in their carriers. They have developed a flea problem and a skin allergy from the fleas. I dont want to use a toxic flea spray on them especially the male since his skin is more sensitive. The vet gave me frontline but it had a lot of pesticides and worm medicine in it that they absorbed thru the skin. They werent supposed to have any kind of reaction but they both had very bad reactions both physically and mentally and it took several months for them to return to normal. They have developed fleas again but I dont know how since they are never outside and again the vet wants to put a spray on them that contains pyrethins which I am very leary of doing. Can someone tell me if there is an herbal or natural spray or shampoo out there without pesticides that I could use on them? I have been shampooing them every week in an Oatmeal shampoo with aloe vera in it and putting hydrocortisone cream on the worst places which helps with the itching. My vet assures me that there will be no adverse effects with the flea spray and the shampoo but I just have a bad feeling about them. The brand names are Mal-A-Ket Shampoo and Ovitrol Plus Flea, Tick & Bot Spray for Dogs, Cats & Horses. The reviews say that the fumes can adversely affect adult cats from the spray so why would you use it on them and to use it in an open environment. You cant do that if they are indoor cats. Hope someone knows of something else I can use on them that will be non-toxic and hypoallergenic for their skins. Thanking in advance for your replies.
Dont want to use any of the flea drops that are absorbed through the skin. Used frontline plus and nearly killed them. Does anyone know of a natural or herbal flea treatment that has no pesticides or pyrinthines in it.

Question by Sweet Nice: Should I take my dog to the vet?
I have a 8 month puggle. She has not been spayed yet, she is going to get spayed in a month because she just ended her first heat(period).
I took her to her vet a month ago when she first started her heat because she was excessively tired and after a checkup, it came out with an upset stomach.
However, I’ve been noticing since the last visit, she’s been scratching her outer ear a few times a day. Also, she licks her genital are although there is no discharge. She also scratches her side a few times a day as well. She’s been sleeping and yawning a lot more.
I fed her cesar and pedigree, but changed it to blue buffalo yesterday because i thought it was food allergies. i give her frontline every month, clean her ears, bathe her etc.
Should I still take her to the vet again or do dogs usually show these similar signs?

Answer by Jayse Ö Think before you breed
I have never yet heard of anyone spaying a baby platypus, which is what a “puggle” is.
If you mean a crossbred dog, I suggest you keep the spay appointment, but in the meantime you take the dog to the vet to get a diagnosis for these problems.
It does sound diet related, with ear infections and skin rashes, etc. but she will need treating for her ears at the very least.
