Question by ErgoF: Is vinegar safe for treating my dog’s yeast?
My female boxer has food and environmental allergies that are currently being treated, but as a result she has developed quite the yeast infection on many parts of her body. I am quite confident that the allergy treatment is working (treating the causes, not the symptoms) so that is not the question. Some of the research I have done on her yeast skin problems has indicated that vinegar is a good treatment and prevention for yeast on dogs. Is straight vinegar safe to spray on her skin or does it need to be diluted first? If so, to what proportions? Thanks for the info.

(I have asked this question before and got two very rude, ill-informed answers, so before you just tell me to take my dog to the vet, here is some more information:

My dog goes to the vet a minimum of once per month. She has had a serum test to determine the specific allergens that aggravate her and as a result she is on a limited ingredient diet and medication to handle some of the unavoidable environmental allergies. She takes an omega-3 supplement with her food. She is also given a prescription antiseptic bath at least once per week. Steroids are not an option as they bring about terrible side effects in her and are just plain not good for her anyway. Antibiotics are not getting rid of her itchy, smelly yeast infections (yes, skin scrapings have been tested and it is just yeast) so her vet recommended researching homeopathic remedies which I have been doing. My question above is for anyone who has had experience using one of these remedies or can recommend another one that they found to be effective. Thank you!)

that’s interesting

vinegar might sting inflamed skin and especially mucous membraney type skin.

try it watered down first, see how it goes … but generally, I hold and extremely dim view of simple household item remedies.

Question by judy o: My 8yr dog wont go potty in the yard!?
I adopted 8yr old dog that owners said did not like walks because her legs couldnt keep up they would have to carry her home. She went in there yard. I started walking her from day one 3x a day and she loves them. Sometimes when longer or really hot she will take a break and lay down for a minute but that does not stop her from getting excited when I get the chain and bag out. My husband reminded me that in a short time we will be in the frozen tundra and I wont want to take her for 3 walks a day getting her all sloppy so I am trying to get her to go in the yard but she wont. She will hold it forever! Right now she has been out every 1/2 hour (more work for me than taking her for that walk) and its been I kid you not 19 hours since she went. Shes a shizu and I cant bathe her every day come winter. Its not good for her skin (she has allergies and it would not be good) Im trying to play with her to get thing moving simulating a walk with no luck. She also wont go out in the rain.

You know that little bag you take with you on the walks…I’m guessing that you are cleaning up after her as you go??…
If so… find the area you want her to go at in the yard and place her “leftovers” from your bag there. She will realize it is “hers” (by scent) and that is acceptable to “go” in that area.

Question by Lance D: My dog constantly wants me to scratch his lower back near the tail…..what could it be besides a flea allergy
I have tried everything to cure this. I have noticed from time to time some dandruff like flakes back there…but she will rub against a fence until she is bloody trying to scratch…..and she rolls on the grass to scratch…..it seems to be just in that area on her back…..I wonder if it is Exczema or some skin condition….or is it JUST flea allergies…??

That sounds like fleas. My dog had it – if you look close at the spot, and there’s a small mound of what looks like dandruff, that’s a flea nest.
You’ll want to take her to the vet to see if she needs special treatment.

Question by Meg: My dog wont gain weight?
I have a 2 yr old Border Collie/German Shepherd mix. She’s an outside dog. I feed her Purina dog chow ( five cups twice a day) and she will not gain weight she actually losing weight. I went to the vet and in three months she lost 15 pounds. And she always has this ear problem, like a yeast infection in her ear, she also had a hematoma. The vet said she had food allergies but when I buy the special food she still looks too skinny. Any suggestions?
Shes apparently allergic to beef pork chicken and lamb
The food i am feeding her now is vegetarian with this food i only feed 3 cups twice a day which is what it said. i have been to the vet 4 times for her ear and i do what the antibiotics tell me and it will do away but then come back

feed her more and dont take her fot to many walks
