allergic to grass?

Question by butchkans: allergic to grass?
my golden retriever has had chronic ear infections her whole life along with inflamed skin on her belly. she has also chewed her feet since about 9 months of age.
we’ve ruled out food allergy and the only other thing that makes sense is grass because it goes away when she spends a few days in the house, primarily.
what can i do for her? she’s a dog. grass is going to be in her life forever. how do i make her more comfy? is there any kind of soothing shampoo?

Answer by saurus3118
Benadryl will alleviate some of the syptoms (my dog has to have it twice a day). Have her thyroid checked if it doesn’t get better. The best thing is to keep her inside if possible or away from the grass. Constant contact with an allergen is miserable for her and possibly dangerous. Keep her ears clean and dry in order to lessen the misery and chances of infection. There are ear solutions for that but the allergies are going to keep it from being cured unless you get them out of her life.

What is wrong with my allergic dog?

Question by digginit4: What is wrong with my allergic dog?
She is taking Temaril -P for about 9 months now but when she is off of it she scratches so hard she bleeds. I tried Wellness simple solutions for 6 weeks before it came to this. No creams, baths or sprays work. She breaks out in a rash on her stomach that will turn into a skin infection if she isn’t on medication. Now she pees all over the house and has developed a reoccurring bladder infection. She has a little blood down there but she is spayed. I feel so bad for her. Please help. Do you think an all meat diet would help? I cannot afford an allergist. Oh, she’s a white American Bulldog 2 years old. Mild allergies when she was young but became very bad last summer. We live in Jersey so we were hoping the cold weather change would help, but no. Thanks in advance
I have hardwood floors so cant be carpet but I do remember the food I gave her for 6 weeks strictly was Wellness simple solutions duck & rice. It was supposed to be for allergic dogs. I was thinking though that the only treat I gave her during the food trial was dried chicken jerky. I knew about the corn and wheat but didn’t realize chicken. I am going to talk to my vet about that other medication. I hate seeing what the temaril -p is doing to her body.

Sounds like she’s allergic to your carpet, since you said the rash is on her belly. Poor baby; allergies are terrible. She might also be allergic to the grass in your yard, which she probably comes into contact with quite often, causing problems. Bully breeds are known for having delicate skin. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help :( I hope you find something that works for her.

What to do if i’m allergic to my own Dog/puppy?

Question by Steven N: What to do if i’m allergic to my own Dog/puppy?
i just got a border collie puppy. 8 weeks old. I knew i was somewhat allergic to pet. Sometimes i get a reaction when staying in a house with pets for a long time but i dont get anything when i play with my best friends dogs. so i think i might be just allergic to the danders. well, im getting some reaction sometimes with my new puppy. it get really itchy eyes and sometime irritional on my skin. nothing close to being severe or deadly for me but does get annoying. im not gonna get rid of him. im determined to be a great dog owner. took me 20 years to get my own. so should i just buy allergy medicine and take it everyday? take it when i get irritation? comb him alot? what DO YOU DO? please dont give me your opinion. i need help from people with the same problem or know people with it and how they delt with it. oh yea, I’m not 100% sure what exactly I’m allergic because I’ve never been to the doctor for it. and I can’t really afford to go

Go to the doctor and see what they can prescribe to ease the symptoms. If it’s unbearable, you may have to give it up. Those are your only two options.

Question by KRISTIN: Was my daughter allergic to the cats, dog, or neither?
My daughter is 4 and yesterday we went to a house with 2 cats (they were just tthose short haired cats you see all over the place but I have no clue what they’re called) and a Boston Terrier. She was all about the animals the whole time, and for an hour or two after we got there, she was sneezing with a running nose that seemed to itch a little. When the cats wanted to escappe her constant playing and petting (nice to them so don’t worry), they went upstairs for a break, and that’s about the time she stopped sneezing. The dog was still there.

She’s lived with 2 chihuahuas her whole life, and never showed any signs of allergies from them. They aren’t ours, though, and when we move out in September, I wanted to get us a cat and probabably a Boston Terrier (seriously LOVE that dog, lol), but I don’t know if she’s allergic to them or maybe neither. The boston terrier, Max, has much more dander than I ever noticed on the chihuahuas, and I am allergic to all animals (I’d be getting shots but would never do that to my kid just to get a certain animal). The chihuahuas would occassionaly give me a little trouble, but nothing too bad. The boston terrier gave me hives all over my arms, cause I carried him around outisde alot. So it is possible the dog did it to her, but I’m pretty sure it was the cats, or maybe neither. She’s gotten some minor allergies this spring and maybe it could’ve just been a coincedance. How do I know for sure? How can I test it? I would never subject her to allergy shots just so we could have a cat, and I would never get an animal with the chance I’d have to give it back. I neeed to know for sure if she’s allergic or not. How can I check it? We don’t know maany people with cats, and not any where she could sppend the night or two, andd I don’t know any catss who I could borrow for a couple days, lol.

She’s barely been around cats at all, and never a boston terrier before, so I have no experiences to compare to yesterday. And I don’t know if he had more dander than the chihuahuas because that breed just has more, or he isn’t groomed enough. I coould see his dry skin, though, and it seemed llike a lot, so I do have a feeling it is partially his grooming.

Oh, and the chihuahus are one short haired and one long haired, and they’re always all over her, so she’s had a LOT of coontact with them for thhe past few years, and again, she’s NEVER had ANY sort of allergy symptoms which they had caused-I’m positive of that.

How do I know if she’s allergic to cats (and/or possibly the bsoton terrier), and is it true that with proper grooming, the boston terrier wouldn’t cause me such horrible allergies?

Thanks in advance for any advice you could give.
