Question by Megan M: Allergic reaction to pre washed produce.?
This evening, I had an allergic reaction to some “pre washed” corn from the supermarket. I doubt I have a corn allergy, since I consume a large amount of corn products and have never had any problem of this sort before. My mother had an allergic reaction to some “pre washed” snow peas about a year ago, and we were thinking if we might possibly be allergic to whatever is used to “pre wash” produce. I have no food allergies, although I am allergic to mamal dander (cats, dogs, rats, mice, guinea pigs, etc.), dust and dust mites, grass, tree, and weed pollen, as well as octocrylene, a chemical found in some sunscreens. I have to take allergy medication all the time, so that might explain not having had a prior reaction. If anyone has any information about this sort of allergy, or an idea of what i might be allergic to, I would be appreciative.

Most pre washed produce are washed with a chemical added to
the water. I would recommend that you re wash any produce.
try eating some canned corn if you have a reaction to it than
you know you have developed a Allergy to it.
I have so many allergy’s till carry a card with me.
So make a list of what you can and can not have if you
every have to go into the hospital they will need that information.

Question by Cynthia: My Chihuahua is suddenly allergic to anything he eats!?
Three weeks ago I thought my dog got stung by a bee near his eye, because his eyelid swelled up. The next day I noticed a lump on his belly and took him to the vet. They said the lump was inflammatory cells. To ensure infection did not set in, he was placed on antibiotics. Ever since this situation started he has an allergic reaction to everything he eats. Within minutes he his eyelids swell up and then he goes crazy licking his feet. He has been on Benadryl for these three weeks and a couple of small doses of Prednisone. I have tried every standard food allergy elimination process you can find. Yesterday the vet even had him try the super-hypoallergenic food called Science Diet ZD. He actually had one of his most severe reactions from that. He has an appointment with a dermatologist/allergy specialist vet on Monday. Has anyone ever had a situation like this with their pet?

I would try California Natural lamb and rice dog food. It has no fillers and may help with the food allergy. I hope that the dermatolagist can help. Good luck!!

Question by paleozoictraveler: Is there an inexpensive way to feed a dog that’s allergic to everything?
My dog is allergic to the following: Pork, turkey, soy, peanuts, most kinds of rice, dairy products, and tobacco smoke, and every variety of grass, excluding corn and wheat.
It costs a fortune to feed her, and the above items are just them most serious of her 3-page allergy list! When she comes into contact with an allergen, she loses her fur and her skin breaks out in bloody leisions. Her moth bleeds and she gets indigestion really bad. We currently feed her Purina One Sensitive, but is there a brand that doesn’t cost as much?

Question by zosweetcandyoz: Am I allergic to my dog?
I have a Cane Corso puppy (girl), and she is totally fine and stuff. The only thing is that after she licks me, I get red spots on my face in random places. They are really blotchy and spread out everywhere. This has also once happened with my friend’s dogs, whom had licked me on my face. Is this an allergy or is it just my skin being very weak and stuff? Help!
BTW, random note: Did I use “whom” in the right way?

Question by : Allergic dog, tips please?
My dog is a 13 month old GSD, he is allergic and we went to the vet about it when he was younger but all the vet did was giving us medication and special dog food to reduce the itching he gets when he eats normal dog food, we’ve tried many kinds of food, right now we’re on a “raw meat tube” diet, not sure what those are actually called but it smells disgusting. Anyway we’re thinking about going to a vet specialized in allergies to try and figure out what he is actually allergic against but it is expensive, what should I do? Should I keep trying to test food? Should I pay the vet to find out? is there any other option? Recently he started scratching himself around his eyes roughly enough so that he started bleeding, can anyone tell me how to “fix” that aswell? Other than “cutting his claws”(Not sure what you actually say in english)?

Your only real options are allergy testing to find out what he’s allergic to, or keep experimenting with different foods. It might not be a food allergy at all. If you haven’t tried feeding him a fish and potato based diet, try that, and remember that allergic reactions to food can take a few weeks to go away or to develop, and that you must be very strict about what the dog eats. If he gets the wrong stuff just one day, you have to start all over again.
