Question by Theresa: Need Some Help With Dog Allergies!!?
I need some help. My dog won’t stop scratching. She doesn’t have fleas and I just switched her food to Wellness whitefish and sweet potato dry food. I think she is allergic to cats. My BF and I moved into a house that has 2 cats. We have been living there for a while now. Someone told me to give her children’s benedryl. She is only 4 pounds does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do, or how much benedryl I should give her? Unfortunately I can’t afford to go to a vet right now. I am going to take her as soon as I can, but is there anything I can do on my own in the meantime?

Give her a bath. I use John Paul oatmeal and tea tree shampoo. You can only get it at Petco

Question by life: Help with the allergies!?
I just have found out that I have multiple allergies. I am allergic to: dust mite, all kind of dust, feathers, fur of cats, dogs and sheep, demodex mite, fish food (dried), fescue, goose-foot, timothy-grass, couch-grass, wormwood, Indian corn and hogweed.
It affects mostly my eyes. They became puffy, and I can’t open them, and then it spreads all over my face. I have constant eye infections because of this.
I removed most things out of my bedroom, to reduce dust and
consequently mites, but I do not have a lot of money to spend on air filters and a vacuum cleaner with water filters. I wondered what other people did in the similar circumstances.
Where do you buy this special bedding? I found on-line only, and would not want to pay for the shipping. Then, I found some special cleaning products that are supposedly “killing all the dust mite”, is it true, or are they just trying to make money off ill people? And did the special bedding help?
And if you travel and have to stay in a hotel, do you take the bedding with you? And ask them to remove the pillows?

If you give her benadryl, make sure you get the regular kind, not any special flavor, not the liquid, and DEFINITELY not the kind that is meant for colds, flus, etc.
You can give her half of a pill, and if that does not work than one pill (one pill is 25mg). It may make her groggy, so she should be attended to. If one pill doesn’t help her, then you really should get a prescription allergy medication for her. Dogs, as well as humans, should not be given benadryl every day as not only does it make them tired (2 pills and I am out cold haha), but they can become dependant on it (not addicted exactly, but the symptoms will be worse whenever they don’t take it.)

Question by SuperGeek: Does anyone have good home remedies for a dog with skin allergies?
Our new dog (chihuahua/beagle mix) has red ears and red paw pads. She scratches at her ears, nose, and eyes like they itch. The vet recommended benadryl, which upset her stomach; we went back and he prescribed another med, which made her tummy worse. I don’t want any more meds.
So, I’m thinking of switching her food to Blue Buffalo, and I’ve heard that vitamin E really helps dogs with skin allergies. I was wondering if anyone had these work for them, and what other things you’ve tried that have helped.
Thanks so much, in advance!
I just wanted to thank you all again! Of course the funny thing is we got this dog from the shelter, because I told my husband I wanted to get a hearty mixed breed.
This is a great dog though, and SUPER good with our girls. So well worth the effort to make her comfortable (without having her tummy get upset).

What ever food you switch to, make sure it’s wheat and corn free. Add an Omega 3 fatty acid to her food, like a fish oil supplement.
If this doesn’t improve her itching I would get her tested for allergies to see what she is allergic too.
