My cat has two bumps (swollen – irritated areas) on the top of his head. I’m thinking they are bug bites or something else is causing irritation. I have given him a shower with oatmeal shampoo, taken his temperature (which was normal) – he is eating, drinking, being playful, and using the bathroom fine – I’m not noticing any swollen lymph nodes or anything showing me he is sick.

Anyways, I’m wondering if any stores (like PetSmart, PetCo – these are the only two by my house), sell any sort of itch relief cream for cats – I’ve seen him itch it once which could be contributing to the swollen areas. My regular vet doesn’t open back up until Monday, and since he seems to be perfectly fine except for the bumps I do not want to take him to the emergency vet for this. If anyone knows of any relief/remedies for him please let me know! One of my cats got a high temperature from being stung by a scorpion and they just gave her a benedryll shot, I know of other people who give their dogs benedryll when they get stung by insects (I live in AZ, lots of scorpion/bee bites in the summer), but I’m not sure if this is safe or not. I don’t even know if this is an insect bite, but it seems to be itchy for him.

If the bumps aren’t looking better by tomorrow I’m going to call in to get an appointment for him for Monday, but it doesn’t seem necessary at this moment, I just want to help relieve the itching for him to see if it can get the swelling down. Thanks for any help!

try “HARTZ Hydrocortisone With Aloe” you’ll find it at petsmart or petco . thats what my vet told me to give my puppies.

This is an issue for the vet. This is probably caused by the backyard breeder you purchased her from. Breeders like that dont care for health testing their animals, and only selfishly contribute to the overpopulation of dogs in this world, especially pits.

Ive been allergic to cats and dogs all my life. Only have to be in the same room as one and thats it, eyes nose start to run, rash appears etc.

Moved in with my GF last year and her 1 year old cat, Murphy. Was dreading it, knowing what im like with them. Murphy wasnt allowed in the bedrooms, to keep my allergy under control. I work shifts so the first week of moving in I was on nights, first night I woke up with Murphy sleeping next to me, straight away thought oh god, im going to be bad, but no, felt like i didnt have an allergy.

So that was it, we became best buddies, While play fighting I would come out in a rash if he broke my skin, sometimes would make my eyes and nose run, but rare.

Sadly Murphy died after our neighbour through water at him while on our extension roof, he fell off awkwardly and knocked his head.

The only thing I can think of is that all cats are different, and Murphy’s body chemistry may not have been irritating to yours. That and you were around him a lot, so you could get used to him.
Could be all in your head too. You liked your gf and wanted it to work out, so you convinced yourself that Murphy wouldn’t cause irritation.

I held one today and I had a mild allergic reaction to it (itchy eyes, after stroking the chinchilla and then putting my hands all over my face and my eyes), do you think it is sensible to get one as it will be in a cage most of the time so won’t aggravate me as much as e.g. a dog would? I have had a dog in the past (spanish water dog – supposedly hypoallergenic) and had to take it back because it irritated my skin and eyes and I struggled to catch my breath because of its dander and saliva all over the house.

I don’t mind having a bit of a reaction when I pick it up so long as there’s a room I can go in where I can have a break.. will it affect the whole house if I have allergic reactions? Do air filters help with allergies like this?
I am not allergic to sawdust/ hay/ chinchilla dust and I have kept caged animals in the past like hamsters and gerbils and been ok because for the most part they’re confined to one area. My concern with a chinchilla is that it’s a bigger animal and will be let out in one room on most days.

It showed up after we put in the Hartz flea collar. When we saw his ear, we immediately took off the collar (allergy?), and gave him a flea and tick bath instead. I know we should take him to the vet, but my mother’s work schedule clashes with the veterinarians opening and closing time.

Is the infection(if it is one) that serious, or what? And if so, how do we (my sisters and I) get him to the vet?

The only way to really know if it’s infected or not is to get him to a vet. That it has significant swelling is a problem anyway, even if it isn’t infected. It could be an allergic reaction.

The vet will take a swab of the material in his ear & examine it. It’s always a good idea to stay away from Hartz products though- or any OTC products for fleas, deworming, etc. A lot of them are not safe.
