My dog has fleas and i need alternative treatments?

Question by T_RawRr: My dog has fleas and i need alternative treatments?
my dog has fleas and to got a spot on thing for him because the vet recommended it for him many years ago.(Advantage by bayer)

im sure ive put it on him right because its worked every other time

i only treat him when he actually gets fleas because its expensive (and my mum refuses to pay that much)

its been around 2 weeks since i put it on and it hasnt had much effect unlike the other times. i dont want to give him a flea bath because he usually bites his skin to its broken when its itchy (from allergies and stuff) so i dont want to put any cleaning stuff on broken skin

+ he is already wearing a tick collar for paralysis ticks and not fleas (other collars dont usually protect him from those type ticks or only last for 2 weeks) so id rather not use anymore pesticide treatment (ticks are common in my area and id rather not pay another $ 1300 vet bill if he gets tick poisoning)

any suggestions?
the spot on is meant to kill fleas around him as well

he has only been infesting 3-4 times in his 8 year life

Question by Youre worthless so eat a bullet: What are some alternative treatments for doggy ocd?
I already asked this but people aren’t listening. My dog has OCD, I know she has OCD, I know it is NOT A FOOD ALLERGY NOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL ALLERGY. I have a 4 year old American Red Nose, she was previously abused before she was given to me and it took me a long time to get her issues in check. The one issue that she has problems with is her OCD licking and chewing on her front pads, mostly the right, and licking at her crotch area. My dog is already on a special diet for her skin and coat because she is a pit and they have dry skin recommended by her vet, so it is not her food. She is a very healthy in door dog, I have a large fenced in back yard which is hers and sprayed with an animal safe bug spray just for her, we go on walks, and she gets to play at the doggy park across the street from my house. I know my dog has OCD I am not looking for what other alternative issues she could have, I am only asking if anyone knows any alternative treatments for this condition besides medications which can change her temperament. She is completely and excellently trained using sound mixed with my native american language, I trained her personally. She is the best dog that I have ever owned it’s just for some reason she cant get past this OCD. Please if anyone has had to deal with doggy OCD could you please share how you got your dog to stop the behavior. Thank you :D

Spray her in the face with a squirt bottle or get her lots of toys that she can chew or lick (put peanut butter on them) or just stimulate her brain by walking her A LOT :D

Alternative to Science Diet z/d for Dogs?

Question by Andie41: Alternative to Science Diet z/d for Dogs?
My 1 year old Lab has a food allergy; to what we are not sure. It began when he was a tiny puppy (about 12 weeks) and he has been on Science Diet z/d and is doing well with that since that time. However, it’s $ 80/bag/month for him which is a lot! We are hoping to switch him to a more affordable food, also in the hopes of finding out if his food sensitivities have gotten better since he’s out of his puppy stage. I have heard good things about California Natural and Canidae. Any suggestions as to what might work well for him?
Actually, I should say that he has a food intolerance, not allergy. He had chronic diarrhea on his Iams Smart Puppy food, not itching or anything that would indicate allergy. We don’t think it’s IBD or anything environmental as his symptoms cleared almost immediately with the food switch.

Thanks for the novel protein comment, that is what I’ve been seeing in my research.

It really depends on the individual dog. A food that might be great for one could be awful for another.

The only way to know for sure is to try a different food and see how he reacts to it.

Question by Rea: I’m looking for a homemade alternative to dog shampoo that puts oils back in my dogs skin.?
I’ve taken him to the vet, he has allergies. His coat is a mess, he’s bloody raw. I’ve been feeding him pork and sweetpotatoes, giving him Benedryl, antibiotics. The vet wants me to buy a shampoo that takes care of the flakes and crust, and a shampoo that puts oils back in his skin. The shampoos are $ 20 a bottle.(which I can’t afford) Oatmeal baths have helped get rid of the flaking, now I’m looking for an alternative to the shampoo that puts oils back in his skin. Any suggestions?

Use skin so soft. It’s not a shampoo but it can be applied after a bath and helps with the itching and flakes.
