Question by SAMSAM: My dog and her skin problems. Need answer ASAP..?
My dog has a skin problem. And now she’s starting to lose all her fur. There’s these little bumps on her skin, an she’s always scratching. Whenever we bring her to the vet they just give her steroids, which kill her and cost extremely expensive to buy once a month. What can I do? She’s 5 years old by the way.. We’ve tried changing her food to something that doesn’t have chicken in it. And we’ve also tried giving her HUMAN allergy pills, that do nothing for her. I don’t know what to do and I dont want her to die so early in her life time. Please help .. Oh, and she’s a Schnoodle (Part schnauzer, part poodle)

Sounds like a Systemic Yeast Infection. Read the information at http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/systemic_yeast_mini_course.htm It’s a lot to take in, but there are reasons WHY your dog has this and how to treat the problem and not just the symptoms. Check out the before and after pics of the dogs affected.

Hi everyone, I need to ask you this because my vet’s office is closed (I will call in the morning as well)
I have an Australian Shepherd mix he’s about 80 pounds (3 1/2 yrs. old), I think he may have allergies. We just put frontline flea on him last week and the fleas are gone.
But it seems like this time every year he starts getting these red blotchy like spots on him, I know most of this is from the remaining flea bits, he is constantly scratchy really bad tonight, and he’s whining when he does this. I know he itches.
I have read some past questions about Benadryl for dogs, but nothing really saying what type of benadryl, (liquid, pill childrens etc)I know not to use the ones with Tylenol and stuff in it since it is toxic.
The only thin I have available at hand is the equate brand (walmart) pill form allergy med. Containing 25 mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride
Can I give him one of those until I can contact y vet tomorrow?

Do they not know that there are tons of great quality kibble out there that are made with human grade ingredients and are grain free? I only ask this because it seems the general public isn’t aware that brands like Innova EVO, Wellness, Canidae, and Timberwolf Organics are out there. I feed my dog Wellness mixed with Timberwolf Organics dry food, and she looks great and I NEVER worry about her food being recalled. It seems everyone wants to switch to homemade dogfoods rather than investigating what foods are good quality, with the assumption that there couldn’t possibly be anything better than what they were feeding, whether Alpo, Science Diet, Nutro, or Eukanuba. I am definately NOT against making your own food for your dog, but for some people this isn’t going to be a longterm solution. If you have the time I think it’s great to make it yourself, but many dogs with allergies can’t do this (like mine)
