Question by ??? T?XA§ §W??TH?ART ???: Can I give my dog Benadryl?
I have a 2 year old Jack Russel Terrier who seems to have a skin irritation due to allergies. Her underside is red from irritation. I gave her a bath but it still seems to be bothersome.
She weighs about 14lbs.
If I can…how much? Please give the dosage for liquid and tablet form and any link that will support your information.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
UPDATE: Yes you can give a dog Benadryl BUT read below….
Thank you for your responses.
I took my pet to the vet where they gave her a shot for the rash. They then proceeded to give her her annual shots.
When waiting to pay her bill, my dog crashed in the lobby with an allergic reaction. She was lifeless and her tongue was hanging out, breathing irratically. The nurse grabbed her and took her to the back. They gave her an epi. shot and took her away from me.
They got my contact numbers and said they would call me later to let me know how she was doing. I was reluctant to leave but they said she was in good hands.
They called me later and said because Freckles had a compromised immune system due to the rash, she had a reaction to her regular immunizations which caused her to crash. WHAT? Didn’t they know this going in? I mean, my kids can’t even get THEIR shots even if they have a runny nose and a vet should have told me this before he almost killed her.
What should I do now?

Question by Crystal: Is OTC Benadryl safe for pets?
I have had some conflicting information regarding this. I want the best for my pet, however, I can’t afford to take him to the vet over every little neurotic concern I have with him (I am worst than a lot of parents about being paranoid about their human child)
He’s a 6 year old chih x I adopted 5 years ago and We have has some allergy issues as well as back issues. I have taken him to the vet several times and spent entirely too much money. But I want him to pain free and safe! To the point…I have had some conflicting answers when asked this question so I want to try to narrow it down. I have had a few people tell me that it’s okay to give my dog a half benadryl and I have read some info online saying this isn’t safe to do. His eye seems to be giving him problems and I have taken him before about his eye watering/staying shut and his skin allergies. I can’t remember the name of meds they gave him at the time but did refer to it as “the same thing as benadryl” so his eye is doing it’s thing again waterying/he’s holding it shut and I want to give him benadryl to see if that helps before I take him to the vet but I don’t want to harm him in anyway.

Yeah, it’s fine. I gave Benadryl to my cat while flying from Alaska to back east and it just makes them drowsy. I would probably only give the animal a half of one to start and see if that works but I wouldn’t exceed 1 tablet just to be safe.

Question by doing the unstuck: Can you give a dog liquid Benadryl?
I have a 7 month old English Bulldog that weighs around 40 lbs. My boyfriend and I decided to bring him to my sisters house tonight and when we brought him in from outside his skin had a few red patches. We figured he might have gotten a minor skin irritation and we just wanted to give him some allergy medicine to keep it under control. We have allergy capsules made especially for dogs, but unfortunately, we forgot to bring them. My sister has liquid Benadryl that she gives her children when their allergies are on the fritz. My question is; can I give it to him, and if I can, how much?
Thanks!

Yes,you can. The dose is 1mg for every pound. You can give this 3 times a day. It is very safe and is great for itching, bee stings and things of that nature. Instead of trying to get it down his throat(he might spit it up&then you have no idea how much he got.)you could mix it with a little ice cream or anything else he will eat. It will probably make him sleepy. I hope he feels better.
