I know that Science Diet is one of the best dog foods, but I am currently in a financial slump and must buy grocery store dog food. My dog has bad skin allergies and I normally buy her Lamb and Rice . I was just wondering if either one of these brands was better than the other.

My dog has either come down with some kind of bad skin allergy or has fleas, because he literally can’t go about 7 or 8 seconds without turning around and biting/scratching himself. I haven’t checked for fleas yet, but he’s really itchy so I doubt if it’s a skin allergen. We can’t get him in for a fleabath until at least Monday, so is there anything we can do at home to make it more comfortable for him until we can get him in?

My Westy has always had a problem with loose stools. Recently within last 6 weeks has had a lot of vomiting and diarrhea – some occurrences with blood in both. I have had him to 2 vets – 6 times now! He has had blood work, shots, meds, stool tests, etc. Both vets have said he has nothing life threatening and at the last resort will go the stomach tissue biopsy or endoscopy – which I would hate for him to have to go thru! He acts fine 99% of the time……..plays, always eats, runs, etc. There are times when he does seem a little distressed – which may be when his tummy hurts him.
I am continuing my vet visits – giving him the meds as prescribed and I have cut out all other people foods – other than chicken, rice, veggies.
My trial will be to cut out all chicken now and try to see if he might be allergic to that. I wanted to try and feed him boiled lamb and a lamb/rice dry food concurrent to this.
Has anyone had this trouble with their dog? And can anyone suggest whether lamb or venison is better to lean towards for the trial food period? I am a vegetarian myself so cooking venison will be hard for me to do and I am not 100% of where I can get this meat………….
Has anyone had luck with lamb????
Thanks!
Mary

My moms great dane has had loose stools recently, has always had a ton of eye “buggers” and red ears (not ear infections but very red and raw looking). I have been telling her to try switching from kibbles n bits to a better quality food and today she switched to Canidae ALS. I know that if these things were food related they would not immediatly correct themselves but what is a reasonable amount of time that if they were food related they should correct themselves?
I personally noticed a reduction in the eye buggers when I changed food last year but is this something food related or could I have just changed when the seasons changed?
Thank you.

My dog has food allergies amoung other things that she is allergic to. I’ve switched her to a venison and rice formula about 2 or 3 months ago because its hypoallergenic. Ive been reading up on this for a while, and ive heard some suggestions about a fish formula.. could this possibly be better than the venison?? and if so, is it bad to continue switching her food?? Thanks in advance! =]
