Snake Bite?

Question by mjboog2: Snake Bite?
My dog was bitten by a snake several months ago, and about 2-3 weeks later, she started having problems with her skin….it is progressively getting worse….I had originally thought that it was due to something in the water in our lake (she loves to go swimming), but I think that only “aggrevates” something that is already there, if that makes any sense…I posted another question about her skin condition if you would like more details feel free to check it out under my questions. We don’t know what kind of snake, and it was 2-3 hours before we found her and rushed her to the vet. She was about 3-4 months old, and the snake was fairly large (fangs 1 1/2 inches apart), and she was bitten twice on the same leg (one on ankle, and one on elbow). Does anyone know of any long term problems like rashes, allergies, depression, etc. that could be caused by a poisonous snake bite?
I will be glad to give more details if needed…and, yes, she has been to the vet for the skin problems.

I have never had any experience with a dog and a snake bite, nor a person either for that matter. I would think that the skin problems would be from allergies, being in the water too much, something like that other than something caused by a snake bite. What did the vet say about her condition?

What do you think? Answer below!

I just got a dog bite What should i do?

Question by Seanx23: I just got a dog bite What should i do?
I went to my friends house and got a dog bite from one of his two dogs that were barking at me, the smaller dog bit me on the leg. I had jeans on though. I rolled up at my jeans and i just saw some skin peeled off. Later i got affront of my friend’s car while the light’s shinning on it i saw the blood coming out from the wound. So i drove home ( which took about 20min), My dad (Allergy Doctor) washed my wound with water, and put some anti infectious powder on it and covered it over with a band-aid. I asked my friend if the dog has been vaccinated he said recently. I’m afraid that i will get rabies, I’m 17 years old and i have a fairly good immune system, i understand that the virus can be dormant for weeks up to months before it actually reaches the central nervous system. I really need some serious advice from people that has gotten bites from dogs and suggest what i should do in my situation, and what are the chances, the likelyhood of Rabies infecting me. I need to act before it’s too late. Please help.

Q&A: Over reacting to dog bite?

Question by PitGirl: Over reacting to dog bite?
I train dogs for a living. I have been bitten a few times, HOWEVER, I knew what I was getting into and I KNEW the dogs were current on all vaccinations.
TELL ME IF I’M OVER REACTING!
This past memorial day weekend my husband and I went to my brother-in-law’s place for a cookout. His ex has the dogs, and she was there as well. From past experience, I don’t think the dog is current on vaccinations, and worse yet, they live in the woods. So, on with my story.
I’m standing in the room which is only 700 square feet. I’d left my dog outside for that reason, but someone let him in while I was in the bathroom. It’s not a bad thing, but I just figured with nearly ten people and two dogs already in the house that one more dog under foot was just not necessary. My pit mix actually comes with me on aggression cases. He isn’t the problem here.
Anyway, Marley, her miniature dachshund gets on the couch with my BIL. No big deal, until my dog went to my husband who was sitting right next to my BIL on the couch. The dachshund flips out and attacks my pit bull, thankfully no blood was drawn on my dog. Of course, being half drunk at the time I wasn’t using my dog trainer’s common sense, and I hooked my arm around MY dog to pull him away because he was actually stuck in place due to how packed the room was, and couldn’t escape. My husband at this point was restraining the dachshund, and somehow, he got loose, and bit my bicep. He left deep non-bleeding puncture wounds and a nasty bruise, but after cleaning my cut out, I saw there were minor scratches that had bled.Actually they look like 3 pin pricks on my skin. It’s def. not the worst bite I’ve had, actually far from it.
Anyway, my concern is the fact that the dog may not be vaccinated. I didn’t think much of it, but I’m curious if my “allergy” symptoms are from something else. It happened on The Sunday before actual Memorial day, and today is Saturday, so it’s been almost a week. I know rabies would have killed me by now, but I’m not an expert on all the dog to human viruses (aside from the common known ones).
I can honestly understand why a lot of dog bites are not reported when they happen within the family, but here’s my dilemma. My BIL and his girlfriend are broke up. He and my husband saw the bite, I have the fading marks of the bruise, and frankly I don’t want to be a bi***. However, I KNOW this dog has high arousal/territorial aggression problem because my BIL has a scar where the dog bit him, and it doesn’t help that she won’t get him neutered. I offered my assistance in training the dog, but his girlfriend (owner) refused me flat out.
I am wondering if I should report the bite. It happened in a neighboring county, and it’s been a week. The bruise is fading, and it wasn’t serious. I wouldn’t think to do this if I KNEW the dog was current on vaccinations, but as is, I don’t know. My husband thinks I shouldn’t worry about it, but frankly, her flat out stupidity regarding her dog’s aggression has pissed me off.
I tried to get the information from her, but she said she wasn’t sure because she couldn’t find his papers since she moved.
My Pit and the Dachshund have played together for around three years. It was the fact that the room was soo crowded, and that was HIS person. That was the first time the dachshund has ever attacked a dog. His aggression is more human based, not good!

Of course you should report the bite. Doesn’t matter if she is family or in this case FORMER family. A dog bite is a dog bite no matter the size of the dog and in this case the dog DID break the skin.

And i don’t care if he’s current or not the bite SHOULD STILL BE REPORTED this dog has proven TWICE it will bite humans unprovoked.

Can you suddenly develop a Mosquito Bite Allergy?

Question by Damian: Can you suddenly develop a Mosquito Bite Allergy?
I am allergic to many thing cigarette smoke, Wheat, Yogurt, trees, grass, weeds, mold, and alot more i also have cross reactions and can’t eat any green vegetables or fruit unless it is fruit juice from concentrate and then only one glass, as well as most other vegetables unless they are well cooked and in moderate amounts. I have never had an odd reaction to mosquito bites just the normal itchy bump until 3 years ago. I got to same itchy bump but they grow about as big around as a golf ball though they don’t become raised off the skin any more than normal. The swelling goes down but leaves a red mark that fades to pink after about a week then keeps fading for about two months and leaves a small scar you wouldn’t notice unless you knew where it was and the scar fades completely after about 7 months. Is it possible to develop an allergy after years of not having one. I know it is possible to develop an immunity since i was once allergic to cats and dogs but got over that. It might also help with knowing about my plant allergies i have, since a few years ago when i was outside alot i didn’t have as strong a reaction now i just touch a tree or plant and my hands get red and itchy while as a child i could climb trees and play in grass without a problem.

Help with a weird looking bug bite?

Question by Amelia X: Help with a weird looking bug bite?
I have this weird bug bite on the back of my left leg. I think it’s from a mosquito, since I saw one right before I got bit. I’ve had it for a couple of days and the skin around it developed a red, blotchy rash. Around that is a thick, pale ring. So, from the inside outward: bug bite, red rash, pale ring. It looks like the exact opposite of this, with the red and white reversed: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8e/Bullseye_Lyme_Disease_Rash.jpg
Also, the bite is a bit smaller.
It DOES NOT look like a bulls-eye, so I’m pretty sure I don’t have Lyme Disease. Also, I have multiple bites like this, but the one on my leg is the worst (I got them all in one night, so I’m pretty sure they were from the same type of bug). From the middle of the mosquito bite to the edge of the white ring, it is almost 1 1/2 inches.
All of the bites have swelled up pretty big. They’re itchy and are sensitive to the touch. I have no other symptoms, except a sore throat that I got the same night I was bitten (however I think this might have just been allergies, and the sore throat is almost completely gone now).
I have very sensitive skin and I’m allergic to quite a lot (pollen, honey, dogs, mold, etc.) However, none of my allergies are fatal. Do you think maybe I got an allergic reaction to the bite? I’ve gotten mosquito bites years ago and they didn’t look like this! Could I have devolped some type of allergy to it?
The swelling seems to be going down a bit, but after that I noticed a white ring. I just want to make sure this isn’t serious or anything. If anyone has any ideas of what could be causing this, or some pictures, I would be very grateful. Thanks!
It looks exactly like this, but with a white ring around it. http://www.skinsight.com/info/files/image_upload/Bite1%20copy_2_0.jpg
