Question by mommy: My dog has a food allergy that causes yeast infections in her ears…?
well, she has been to the vet so no need for anyone to tell me to take her there. I now feed her purina pro plan for sensitive skin and stomach that’s salmon based. We think she is allergic to any land dwellers because we tried chicken based food, lamb based food, beef based food and duck based food. The stuff she’s on now works great. My question is: could we feed her cat food that is fish based? The reason I am asking is because the stuff she’s on now is a bit expensive for us right now. Obviously she will get what she’s on now regardless. I was just wondering if it would be ok to feed her the cat food.
Thank you guys soooo much for the advice so far. I just thought I would try something that’s good for her and me both but, I guess it wasn’t such a good idea. I’m glad I sought advice first.
What are some good grain free foods?

Best answer:

Answer by Dog Section Regular
NO. Cat food is for CATS, not dogs.

Purina is junk, high priced junk at that.

* They make plenty of allergy foods for dogs. You want a single protein like: fish, duck, rabbit, venison.

Look for a food with NO GRAINS.

Good foods for DOGS:

Wellness
Wellness CORE
Natural Balance
California Natural
Taste of the Wild
Innova
Innova EVO
Merrick
Evanger’s
Blue Wilderness
Canidae
Solid Gold
Orijen

Question by sayswho?: my dog licks his paws SO MUCH he cant walk on them! advice? suggestions? causes? anything?
i have a 6 year old havanese who licks his paws constantly and so deeply that he can’t walk on them for hours afterwards. he does it with such intesity that he pants and his paws are all red.

we’ve taken him to a vet a few times for this but nothing theyve done has really helped. we use all natural cleansers on our floors so i doubt its anything he’s walking on. one vet said it could be food allergies so we’ve switched brands more than a few times but nothings helped. the topical solutions dont do much at all. it’s not a seasonal allergy either.

anyone have any advice or tips? any holistic or home remedies to relieve this itching?

thanks in advance.

Question by conusgypsy: My dog’s hair is falling out in clumps, what could be some causes?
He’s losing his hair in large clumps. There are no bald spots and the skin does not appear discolored or have a rash. He is scratching quite a bit and he is 11 years old. Can he be losing this much hair from scratching due to allergies or could there be another cause. I worry a bit more with his because he is becoming elderly.

Hair loss in old dogs can be caused by mange or other infections because they are much less able to resist it though the skin would usually look sore
It is unlikely to be an allergy developed this late in life (unless something has radically changed in his environment or diet)

Sadly it can also be caused by hormonal changes that result from cancers or the result of liver problems
If your dog seems a bit “down” and miserable about life, I would talk to a vet about what is going on

If your dog is happy still, it may just be a case of eliminating the possibility that it is mange or some other easily fixed problem and then living with the problem until your dog has had enough

I don’t want to be negative or upset you – I have nearly deleted this answer before I finished , but i guess you are thinking along these lines anyway
It may be something really easy to fix so it is well worth trying to find out what the cause is

Question by What.. EVER: What kibble is good for a dog with allergies which causes weeping of the eyes?
Before you answer, no.. my dog does not have a problem with her tear ducts, she has been thoroughly examined by two vets. She has allergies. I am trying to find a food that is good for a dog with allergies. I cannot feed raw to this dog. So no raw recommendations. I have tried Orijen and there is something in there also causing allergies. What other kibbles are good for allergies?
Thanks
juice, purina is not even food, it is toxins for pets. No way. Never!

Love is a german shepherd, what are you talking about? Itchy, watery eyes are a classic sign of allergies.

Question by Jilibean Reinstated: What causes recurrent ear infections in a dog?
I have an English Springer Spaniel who repeatedly gets ear infections, especially in one ear. I have meds for it, and I’ve eliminated corn from his diet, but he still repeatedly gets them. Seems like I used the ear meds constantly.
What causes this? He’s a water dog (obsessed with the river!), and I know that water doesn’t help. Is it a food allergy I might be overlooking?

Best answer:

Answer by Liligirl
Have the hair in his ears removed about once a month. I should add that is because the hair will grow down into the canal and collect muck, become infected and painful.
