WHAT could be CAUSING my sons RASH?

Question by Lilly: WHAT could be CAUSING my sons RASH?
He has had this red bumpy itchy rash on his entire body (except the face) since he was about 1 year old. He will be 3 in June. It comes & goes but it never completely disappears. Cutivate was prescribed, and it works, but when I stop, it re-appears. The ped. allergist took a blood test and it came back negative -except for eggs, which showed just a slightly positive sign of a possibe allergy, but not enough to say “he’s allergic to eggs” she still wants him back for a skin test to check for some other allergies.
He was on soy formula as a baby and at 1 yr old, I put him on a combination of reg cows milk and Silk soy vanilla milk. I stopped the soy milk about 6 months ago, so thats not the cause. He eats a regular kids/adults diet with the exception of fish. But nothing weird or exotic. We are Italian American and he basically eats a normal diet of pasta, beef, chicken, peanut butter, chocolate, eggs, potatoes, fruits, veggies, milk and apple juice. We have a dog but he tested negative for that. I always use free & clear detergent and soaps on him and his clothes.

Any ideas?
No, it couldnt be bed bugs, He still sleeps in a crib with a plastic mattress. Unless Bed Bugs can survive on a plastic mattress??? EWWW Anyway, I checked and see no sign of that. Whew!
Its not Eczema, although he has a mild case of that too. This is different.
And to clarify: Free & Clear is any detergent “free & clear” of perfumes & dyes.

Question by pattil: My dog has a rash…any help with ideas what might be causing it?
My 6 year old Brittany Spaniel has had a strange rash on his belly and inside of his thighs. He does have terrible allergies to fleas, certain foods, etc. We did an extensive food allergy testing when he was a year old and he’s on a diet I cook for him…no grains, only fish and a few other ingredients. We don’t use chemicals in our house or on him (no flea treatments or dog soaps, just sulfate free all natural soaps). He did have a flea on him about a month and a half ago while we were out of town and got a bite that caused a slight rash with itching. That healed up but this “rash” is different. It looks like chicken pox. At first I thot ring worm, but it’s not that. It looks like what an ant bite looks like on a human, but there’s about 20 of them. I can’t figure out what’s causing it. The vet says just put him on prednisone and antibiotics. I did do the antibiotics but not the predisone. There’s no itching or discomfort at all from these bumps/rash. Any ideas?
I chose not to do the prednisone because I want to find the source first…I’m all for the steriods as I know it can help, but I’d like to know the cause first :)

If you dog just had a shot just recently he might be allergic to that. Many dogs have been having allergic reactions to shots. Also it seems like you dog is allergic to many things so he might have gone outside and rubbed against the grass or a plant that made him react. Have you changed something like your shampoo, body spray or lotions?Or he might have eaten something. My dog had something like that but he got it when we cleaned our carpets. Hope it clears up well.

Question by GreasyQtip: What could be causing my dogs constant diarrhea?
Hello and thank you for taking the time to help me, we certainly could use the help.

Me and my fiance got a dog about 6 weeks ago when we took him to the vet he was 10 pounds less then the most recently known weight. He is a boxer and went from 55 to 45. When he was brought to the pound he was the healthy weight and was living off garbage in the allys.
-First we had a fecal checked and it showed hook worm, hook worm was treated and diarrhea remained soupy (sorry for the vivid image). At the time he was eating a quality brand (Wellness Lamb and Rice)
-Switched diet to bland diet 50% boiled chicken 50% plain rice as suggested by the vet.
-Poop became slightly more solid and not a soup but still problem unsolved.
-10 days has passed and he has lost another 3 pounds.
-Had him blood tested and switched his diet to Purina EN which the vet told me would help. It seems to be better then nothing but the problem persists. Blood tests came up negative.
- I am worried about his diarrhea which has also made him have runny eyes and he only itches in one spot on his leg so I would not call it a skin iritation yet (but i’m no vet)

If its a food allergy I suppose it would have to be chicken or rice, next step is an overly expensive pancreas test which I would prefer to avoid since the money already spent has done nothing. Please someone must have had a similar problem. Thank you again!
Seth and Amy
The EN Diet label claims to be especially for gastroenteric problems, and I should add he doesn’t constantly have diarrhea, as he only goes once a day, but he has had it consistently months.

Because he is losing so much weight, personally, I would get the pancreas test. If that’s the issue, it’s usually remedied with an enzyme you add to the food. It will take months to sort out an allergy, and he can’t keep losing weight like this. If he does, he will get other issues because he will be so run down.

And if that’s it, talk to your vet about the least expensive enzyme. One of my mom’s dog has this issue, and she went at her vet tooth and nail until they found a less expensive enzyme that he orders just for her when she needs to re-stock.

Your boxer is so lucky to have been rescued by such good new owners!

ETA: Logan is fine now, with the enzyme. His weight went back up pretty quickly and no more loose stools. He’s good as new!

ETA: Logan started out that way too. First a loose stool every day, then constant loose stools, big appetite, losing weight. And most people here have never used the special diets–they are just saying they don’t like Purina’s commercial foods. ;)

What ingredient is causing my dogs allergies?

Question by Mely: What ingredient is causing my dogs allergies?
I have a white chihuahua. He has been eating wellness all his life. He is currently on the small breed formula. He always licks himself in the chest. A few days ago I ran out of his food so I’ve been feeding him more of a raw diet (only temporarily) I noticed he doesn’t lick his chest anymore and his coat isn’t greasy (which it usually is on his back). What kind of dry food can I switch to that will keep his symptoms at bay?

Besides the white chihuahua I have a black one and she eats the same food as him only she’s never had an allergic reaction.

try feeding him a gluten free dog food. There are several on the market. My wife has recently developed an intolerance to gluten and has had to cut out all wheat, barley, rye from her diet as well as she has a soy intolerance and soy is in just about everything, Here is a google search for gluten fee dog foods.

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS314US314&q=gluten+free+dog+foods

Choose one of them and your problem will probably be solved.

What might be causing my sudden allergies?

Question by SaraMae: What might be causing my sudden allergies?
I am 20 and I’ve only had a few allergies before, but all of the sudden I am having alot more allergies. It’s not just one type either! It’s my eyes, skin and sinuses. I also have developed some reations to food but I think they are intolerences, not allergies. I didn’t use to be allergic to my dog, but now I break out in hives when I am around her! A few weeks ago my eyes started tearing up or getting puffy without apparent reason. Just a few days ago my skin started to feel uncomfortable (not quite itchy, just uncomfortable).
What could be causing this? Are the interrelated or is it just chance? What can I do for this (especially the skin problem)?
This is especially important because I am starting a 5 week long job as a camp counselor tomorrow, so I will be exposed to a lot of allergens. BTW, my main problem with food is a complete intolerence to bananas.
