Question by tripperpup: My chihuahua keeps full body shaking (like they do after a bath) and I’m not sure why? 20-30 times per day?
Hi – my dog seems to have picked up a habit that drives me nuts. He full-body shakes (not shivering, but like how dogs shake after they get a bath) constantly – and I mean constantly. Today alone he shook 22 times. This has been going on for around 6 months now. I took him to the vet and he said it is probably dry skin, but he did not seem to take me seriously when I said how excessive it had become.

I give him regular baths with moisturizing, natural shampoo and he gets defurminated often. He eats Wellness small bites food and has no allergies that I know of. Could he have an ear infection? The only thing is that I never actually see him itch his ear or anything, and he never just shakes his head. It is always his WHOLE body.

The worst it has been was 38 times in one day. I am worried about how this could affect him (seriously, his brain must rattle around or something..)

Please help!
Thanks for the information so far. How often should a dog receive a bath? He gets one every few weeks now, but I live in NYC so he starts to stink if I do it any less (lots of walks and stuff). Also since he is so low to the ground I am constantly having to wipe dirt off his belly. Would it be better to use some sort of moisturizer? I also hear he could be deficient in some vitamin that is causing his skin to become dry…

Would a dog develop an allergy as he ages? He only picked up this habit in the past half year, and he is six.

He just wears a normal collar which has never bothered him before.

Thanks again for all the responses.

If you are giving him lots of baths his skin might not like that. Or he could have eaten something that has made him shake.

Question by FtBall PlayR… 4 NoW: What does my chihuahua mix ’s balls itch like crazy?
My puppy of 10 11 months seems to have severe ball irritation. He was recently nuetered but prior to that he had iritation. He sleeps in our bed and at “bed time” is usually when the ithing occurs. I think it could possibly be an allergy to our detergent. i dont think it is bed bugs because we r not affected. I have washed him before but so has the groomers so i dont think its the shampoo. He has dandruff sometimes but is a black dog so it shows very well so maybe dry skin???

Why is my chihuahua balding?

Question by hls: Why is my chihuahua balding?
My 2 1/2 year old short haired chihuahua is balding on his neck, chest, and belly. His back and tail are covered with a smooth thick coat, and his head is covered in a softer coat. He doesn’t have any skin irriations, allergies, or health issues. I’m a little concerned because he is so small and fragile. I haven’t been too concerened with his underside until recently, he’s been covered in age spots over the past year, and it’s getting darker and darker. He’s white and tan, and when he did have hair on his underside, it was light and blended in with his pinkish skin color.
I have another female chihuahua who is also short haired, but she is evenly covered, with the exception of her belly. I can’t help but compare them, she looks healthier because she is 6 lbs and 2 inches taller. He is a little less than 5 lbs and so fragile.
They both have a good appetite, I only feed them Wellness dog food (wet & dry) and Milk Bone treats.
Has anyone else have this problem with their chihuahua or have any insight? Is this normal? Do I need to change their diet?
*there is no irriation, it’s not patchy and there’s no discomfort.

Help!!!My 7 year old Chihuahua is throwing up!!!?

Question by Flor G: Help!!!My 7 year old Chihuahua is throwing up!!!?
I have a 7 year old male Chihuahua. He has been throwing up lately quite often and he has trouble pooping. When I take him out he poops and then he walks a little and he tries to poop again but he doesnt. He just stays in that position for 3 or 4 minutes. He walks a little and does the same thing. I took him to the vet and I asked about the vomiting and he said that the dog has allergies. I am worried about the throwing up and the pooping problem. I feed him Iams for small dogs. Should I change his food for older dogs??What do I do??
Well when I took him to the vet he asked if he was sneezing. I said he was. And he does sneeze when he throws up.
The vet said he had seasonal allergies. I did not know dogs had allegies

Feed him Purina Pro-plan, it what us show dog breeders recommend b/c it is easy on the dogs stomach, and there are many different varieties encluding senior small dog.For the trowing up give him plain yougurt, and bread, and regular vanila ice cream (like the little ice cream cups) and little water. At feeding put a small amount of water in the food so he can drink and eat at the same time.

Question by Cynthia: My Chihuahua is suddenly allergic to anything he eats!?
Three weeks ago I thought my dog got stung by a bee near his eye, because his eyelid swelled up. The next day I noticed a lump on his belly and took him to the vet. They said the lump was inflammatory cells. To ensure infection did not set in, he was placed on antibiotics. Ever since this situation started he has an allergic reaction to everything he eats. Within minutes he his eyelids swell up and then he goes crazy licking his feet. He has been on Benadryl for these three weeks and a couple of small doses of Prednisone. I have tried every standard food allergy elimination process you can find. Yesterday the vet even had him try the super-hypoallergenic food called Science Diet ZD. He actually had one of his most severe reactions from that. He has an appointment with a dermatologist/allergy specialist vet on Monday. Has anyone ever had a situation like this with their pet?

I would try California Natural lamb and rice dog food. It has no fillers and may help with the food allergy. I hope that the dermatolagist can help. Good luck!!
