Question by nuttyflower: If a dog is allergic to chocolate, what kind of symptoms would he show?
My dog has had skin issues for a while. He would itch his legs so bad that he would be tearing out his fur. I sought a lot of advice and tried many different things to make him more comfortable: switched his food, bought special shampoo, tried “itch relief/hotspot” sprays and gave him fish oil. Recently, i made a batch of cupcakes with a ton of chocolate in them. Yeah, he is a sneaky devil and ended up scarfing down 4 of them. Not even a crumb was dropped! He really loves sweets and gets very sneaky around them. Anyways, its about a week later and we noticed red raw sores where he itches himself and he has never had these before. He’s now on antibiotics, allergy medicine and steriods, also a prescription shampoo. The vet seemed to believe it was allergys. I told her about the cupcakes and she didn’t say anything. The more i think about it, i think it may have been the chocolate. I’ve heard that it can be very bad for dogs and that many are allergic. My friends dog ate a whole bowl of M&Ms and nothing happened Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with dogs and adverse reactions to chocolate.

I had a dog that found a box of York Peppermint Patties. Ate the whole thing including the wrappers. Got terrible diharhea and got better after a couple of days. Chocolate is one of the worst things a dog can eat. They can even die from it. The allergy stuff you are going through with the skin irritation is probably unrelated. If the chocolate did it to him it would probably have been immediate.

20 Month old Chocolate lab Has skin rash all over is mouth?

Question by Eric H: 20 Month old Chocolate lab Has skin rash all over is mouth?
My dog cody has been in and out of vets for 4 months now. 4 months ago he got a rash around his mouth and eyes that produce clusters of huge red bumps that burst and bleed, on there own and with his itching.. He has been diagnosed with , dog acne, allergies, folliculitus. He was on Cephalexin 500 mg and it went away but the day the pills were over it came back. Vet tells us to wash his face with a warm compress and wash with benzoyl peroxide all his does is bust his huge bumps faster! He has been stripped of all dog food execpt holistc food and treats, changed everything we use in the house to allergie free products! Nothing seems to help and we have never got a clear answer about what this is. After reading some stuff online i’m wondering if Cody has an immunity problem. Looking for any help to fix Cody!
Thank You

Best food for a Dalmation and Chocolate Lab?

Question by Jess :) : Best food for a Dalmation and Chocolate Lab?
We have a 7 month old Dalmation and a 4 1/2 year old Chocolate lab… They are currently on Diamond brand dog food…but I just don’t feel like it’s a “good” food. I know dals have a different kind of diet, and i was wondering if anyone could recommend some good dog foods for her. Our lab tore his acl about a year and a half ago, which has promoted mild hip dysplasia… sad when he’s not even 5…some days he can barely get up…and in the summer he also has terrible skin allergies, and they had been putting him on these steroid shots and pills that helped a ton, but it made him gain a lot of weight, which isn’t good for his hip, so i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a good dog food for him as well! Thanks

I am not sure what she is allergic to, but the vet said she has been having allergic reactions. Any suggestion? The puppy food still has to be nutritious.
