Question by Dear Prudence: Can you please help me in choosing or making the best quality food for my dog?
I want to choose a HIGH QUALITY DIET for my dog. I’m willing to buy or make the food myself and cost is not an issue; I simply want the best possible diet for my best friend. I am confused by the information on the net, much of which is contradictory. One source makes a recommendation and another discounts it.
I am looking for experienced and highly knowledgable opinions! Thanks!
Considerations:
–5 y.o., active lhasa.
–Generally healthy, but sometimes has mucousy stool which I haven’t correlated to a source. He also sneezes a lot and has runny nose and eyes. Doc says this is allergy, however I suspect it is a result of his smashed in muzzle. No allergy meds have helped and present in every season.
–He is a very picky eater; historically I have mixed in a bit of cooked ground beef or turkey or broth with his kibble.
–Also need recommendation for a good quality treat that I can buy or make. He likes cruncy biscuits but most sources say flour, wheat, etc is bad.

Question by Kitsch Haus: Help choosing chicken-free food for an allergy prone dog?
My two and a half year old Bull Terrier started developing reoccurring rashes in the “pits” of her hind legs and at first I thought it was just dry skin or rubbing. After a month of using medicated shampoos and ointments I took her to get it checked out and ends up it’s most likely a food allergy. Specifically chicken.
Has anybody else had a dog develop an allergy over time (this also happened with my dog with peanut butter)? What poultry-free dry foods can you recommend that are not overly expensive?
Thanks

It might be just me but I would get a second opinion on that. I have never heard of a dog being allergic to chicken. Beef yes, but chicken?
Maybe someone wiser than I can answer this one. Learning lots from everyone’s answers, sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Question by csheabutterfly: Pug has allergies and senstive stomach, Help choosing a food please!?
After adopting my pug from a shelter I noticed he chased his tail and chewed it raw. I immediatley took him to the vet, he had yeast in his wrinkles, a ear infection and dry flaky skin. They prescribed a ton of pills and ointment for the ears and said it was a food allergie. He was eating Science Diet, the natures best lamb and brown rice one. So the vet switched him to Eukanuba. He did not do well on that food at all, he seemed worse. I purchased taste of the wild pacific stream, he actually would dump his bowl over and refused to eat it for like 3 days, I even did the mix it with the old food and gradually adjust him. He would just not even eat a bite of it. So I go to petco and purchase Dick Van pattens duck and potatoe. That food gave him clear the room gas and horrible diarrea. Back to the vet and they said to refrain from food for 24 hours and let his stomach rest, so since petco has there 100 percent return policy I took back the duck food and got the fish and sweet potatoe one. He has been eating it a little over a month, but his hair looks horrible, in that area he chewed has yet to grow back and he still has very bad gas. He doesnt have that shiney coat look and its still dry and flaky and even with the pills he still itches. So please if any one can recommend a food for a allergy ridden dog that helps I am all for it. I was thinking of trying Wellness food next or blue buffalo.
thanks so much!

I don’t really know much about dog food, but pugs have gas, so gas isn’t something you need to worry about. Also, you have to wipe out the wrinkles everyday so he doesn’t get infected. That will help keep him healthy. As for dog food, I’m not sure about dog food.
