Whats wrong with my doggy? :(?

Question by nananana batman!: Whats wrong with my doggy? :( ?
Last year my dad brought home a beautiful 3 month old puppy from our nearby animal shelter, he’s been the highlight of my life ever since. He’s goofy and fun to play around with, and is absolutely adorable. He’s believed to be a boxer mixed with a black lab with some Great Dane in there. Oscar is a pretty big boy, and thinks hes a lapdog which i find to be soo cute! But lately hes been acting weird, scratching incessantly and squealing each time he itches himself. My parents took him to the vet about a month ago for a steroid shot to calm his allergies down, which made him very lethargic but did work for about a week. There was no scratching or whining in agony, and we all figured he was good. Then he started doing it again, which we think might have been caused by his dog food. We give him half a can of wet food (which hes never had a reaction to) and then two large cups of medium sized kibbles. Previously, hes eaten all of it (and i mean every last lick) in under two minutes, but now he simply sniffs the dry food and walks away. Our vet believes he may have an allergy to his food, yet we have never changed it since having him because he seems to like it so much. Occasionally we will switch out the wet canned food from beef to chicken or to lamb, which he seems to LOVE. After giving him a lighter diet with dry and wet food for sensitive skin, hes still itching. He looks absolutely miserable, and it breaks my heart to see him scratching in agony like he does. Just recently, hes become withdrawn and doesnt enjoy cuddling anymore and tends to lay down in really odd places. For example, he used to lay out in the foyer where everyone would see him and bend down to give him a belly rub. Now, like literally at this moment, hes laying in a very small space between our dining room table and the wall, where its dark and most likely not comfortable. Anyone out there having similar issues? I need help :(

You can all your vet and get a referral to a veterinary dermatologist. It may take some time and trial and error, but working with a dermatologist will help get this under control.

Good luck

Question by Youre worthless so eat a bullet: What are some alternative treatments for doggy ocd?
I already asked this but people aren’t listening. My dog has OCD, I know she has OCD, I know it is NOT A FOOD ALLERGY NOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL ALLERGY. I have a 4 year old American Red Nose, she was previously abused before she was given to me and it took me a long time to get her issues in check. The one issue that she has problems with is her OCD licking and chewing on her front pads, mostly the right, and licking at her crotch area. My dog is already on a special diet for her skin and coat because she is a pit and they have dry skin recommended by her vet, so it is not her food. She is a very healthy in door dog, I have a large fenced in back yard which is hers and sprayed with an animal safe bug spray just for her, we go on walks, and she gets to play at the doggy park across the street from my house. I know my dog has OCD I am not looking for what other alternative issues she could have, I am only asking if anyone knows any alternative treatments for this condition besides medications which can change her temperament. She is completely and excellently trained using sound mixed with my native american language, I trained her personally. She is the best dog that I have ever owned it’s just for some reason she cant get past this OCD. Please if anyone has had to deal with doggy OCD could you please share how you got your dog to stop the behavior. Thank you :D

Spray her in the face with a squirt bottle or get her lots of toys that she can chew or lick (put peanut butter on them) or just stimulate her brain by walking her A LOT :D

Question by Paige: Doggy with allergies!!! Treatment? Prevention? Diagnosis? HELP!?
I have Brittney Spaniel that is 10 months old and started having an allergy problem about 3 months ago. He gets red streaks on the bottoms of his ear flaps and he gets a small rash around his right eye. We have tried every type of food possible from changing the protein -> taking out the soy, corn and whey -> then going down to just a 5 ingredient dog food that just has venison, flaxseed, 2 types of rice and sunflower oil in it and nothing is changing so I don’t think it’s food related. We then thought maybe it was dust and hair build up in our apartment that our old vacuum was just not picking up. So we got a new vacuum and low and behold we picked up 4 canisters worth of hair and dust from our carpet (OMG nasty I know and it’s only a 2 bedroom apartment!) I couldn’t believe it so I thought maybe that’s it. Well he is still scratching at his eye but his ears actually look a lot better! So will his eye get better or is there something else that we are not doing???

Also we are giving our dog Benadryl (1mg per pound) but how many times a day can you give it to them? right now I am only giving him one dose in the morning and one dose at night

FYI we cleaned and vacuumed our house topped to bottom on Sunday so it’s only been a couple of day.

The fact of the matter is that overly-processed food isn’t very good for your dog’s digestive system or his or her overall health…kinda like in humans. Most people will lie to you and tell you that these types of medical conditions cannot be reversed without medications. They want you to pay and arm and a leg for expensive foods and drugs. They would have you believe that medication is the answer to all your dogs problems. People have got it all wrong… Let me reveal the truth to you; dogs have been eating raw meat since the dawn of time! I mean come on, people try and tell you that the harmful bacteria in raw meat will hurt your dog’s stomach but that simply isn’t true. Dogs do not have the digestive system to cope with grains. In fact, grains are one of the biggest source of allergies for dogs and commercial dog foods are loaded with them! The answer is simple; Dogs have the capability to eat a raw food diet just fine. We consider our dogs to be more civilized, so therefore we feed them more civilized food even if it is more expensive and less healthy for them. The solution is a type of raw food diet that reduces
