Question by Marion C: My dog has a flea allergy but what can be done about it?
she is a malamute and has her winter coat but on her back if I seperate her skin, I see crusty skin and the undercoat I guess, can come off very easily if I pick on it.

I got her from the shelter this way so its not something she has seen the vet about.

I was told alot of dogs have flea allergies. Does this mean she is going to lose her coat or just have little clumps of hair fall out? Trust me, she has plenty.

BTW.. she doesnt have fleas. Is there some sort of bath or meds I can give her so her skin isnt dry? Its only in some spots on her back, fortunately.

i ask this as i have seen a few ppl whose dogs have got a skin compliant and the vet prescribing pred … drug to treat this SKIN complaint
i have noticed i few ppl on here that actually confirming what i already thought 10 yrs ago , that a dog that has been done get this itchy red “round” rash , normally on there belly,and near the genitalia
it start of like , a dotted red rash , that looks like a ring , and gradually speads, all over the body
sometimes accompanied with a ear infection?
does your dog suffer in this way ? has it been done ?
please only answer this q if your dog gets the rash .,
ppl that read but dont answer please star , as it something we all should be aware of , this , red ring rash , , i been told it a pollen allergy , < as if > sweat rash ,, hmm maybe
but i have noticed it more on dogs that have been “done”
i wish i could find the prevoius qusetion that was asked here, if i find it i will post it up , so you can see i not the only one wondering this !!

dusts, and pollens, now she is gonna have to get shots with allergens in it for nine months, and i was wondering if thats bad in some how or if its just nothing to woorry bout, thanks… also lately she is been getting smelly then the usual and her hair is fallin a little bit can that be for the same things? allergies. Thats all she shows just itchiness greasy fur and smelly and comes out.. is not mange or any no fleas neither and is not shedding she is a bichon she nerver does that or else i wouldnt be worried

no worries…they do the same thing for people with allergies…it is so that hopefully the can develop a ‘resistance’ and fight off what they are allergic to on their own…

Sounds like she is just your typical allergic fluff ball…

Question by Kaye: How much would it cost to have a skin test done on my dog?
She itches all the time, scratches and bites and chews on herself all day and most of the night. My vet keeps saying it’s allergies, but the shots don’t help and it’s not going away when the seasons change. Her skin is red and always feels wet…. she smells awful, even when she’s just had a bath, she still smells like…. well I can’t explain what she smells like but she stinks. She gets 3 baths a week, and flea treatments once a month and she stayed absolutely covered in fleas. She’s an inside dog. Only goes outside to use the bathroom. She’s losing her hair off her stomach and back and has already lost all of her hair off her butt.
She’s almost 11 years old….
her skin also looks sorta black in some places.
And if I don’t give her that many baths she gets infested with fleas. I’m talkin about you can look at her and see them crawling all over her.

it could be old age, but i think you are giving her too many baths. take it down to once a week, or once every 2 weeks. too many baths will dry her skin out.
