Dog Flea and Tick Medications?
Question by !DookDook! ?: Dog Flea and Tick Medications?
My 7 year old female Bichon Frise has been having skin problems. The vet told us it was dermatitis and gave us antibiotics and a shampoo. We used both for the amount of time we were told to and nothing happened. I suggested it might be a skin allergy from her prescription Hill’s Diet (c/d with lots of grains) so we’re putting her on Wellness CORE. There are little black things all over her fur so I also suggested treating her for fleas and ticks. (The black things are NOT moving, though…) I figured what do we have to lose?
What do you suggest we use for her? She’s never had fleas in her life and has never been treated for them. The only creepy crawlies I’ve ever dealt with were ear mites in my cat. What should we get? (No Wal-Mart products, please.) A shampoo? Frontline? I don’t want her too oily or greasy but I don’t want to pay a fortune on it, either.
Thank you!!
Cerberus28- the prescription food was to keep her bladder crystals and stones down (both types) BUT, we just started giving her Methigel with the CORE.
I’m looking into all of these. I was hearing iffy things about Frontline but I wasn’t sure what else was suggested.
Oh wow it does look like it could be flea eggs!!!!! I can’t find any good ones as we’ve been picking them off a lot lately.

Do not use hartz products as they are being tested for their safety in animal use. Any product like frontline, advantix, etc, are going to work but they have pesticides in them. If you give your dog a pill like comfortitus, it is going to be more expensive but it works immediately. I have actually used frontline on my dog and he threw his body against the wall. I proceeded to wash it off immediately, and since then have used a flea comb, and give him a flea bath weekly. I have not had any flea problems.
