First my apologies this will be a little lengthy.

OK…
Well my boyfriend and I sleep in the same bed. Like 3 days ago my boyfriend came up with these slightly itchy pimple like things all over his body. I’ve had hives before thought maybe it was allergies to the new body wash or it could have been some food. Told him to try some benedryl, it may or may not have helped it just made him sleep so we don’t know.

Its only getting worse, I dismissed bed bugs/fleas immediately as I was getting even one little bump or bite.

Then I got all ‘bugged out’ thinking about well maybe it might be…

The websites say some people just don’t get bites or don’t react to them. They say the dog might scratch/itch/bite his butt more if he has them. Sometimes when hes walking he like drops/turns really fast because his butt itches.

Tell me what you think please. We don’t have insurance so we want to figure as much as we can out before going to the doctor.
Oh my. Thanks guys. I’m at my moms using the computer so I cant check the dog right now. Argh.
I appreciate all the help I will try to post back soon with an update.

I have a 5 month old Shepherd mix puppy (German/Aussie/Collie we don’t really know). She lives indoors mostly, is vaccinated, and has been flea treated/heartworm treated. So that’s why I can’t figure out what these scabby red bumps on her skin are! they vary in size from very small to the size of a pencil eraser. They are inflamed and red with little scabs over the top of some. They are only located on the backs of her legs (mostly hind) and behind her ears (around her neck).

She constantly itches and bites at her self. Our vet tested her for some puppy dermafungus type bug and she tested negative and they even gave us medication just in case along with flea medicine. She’s completed both treatments for about a month and is still itching!

We switched her to an organic, avocado dog food that is supposed to help with skin allergies/dry itchy skin, and we bought her special hot-spot shampoo and oatmeal conditioner. This has helped SLIGHTLY, but just in keeping her from itching so much… she still has the bumps!

Has anyone had a similar experience? Or any other suggestions? She’s been to the vet almost once or twice a month for the past 3 months we’ve had her and has always had a clean bill of health. Can you put cortizone on them or would getting her a shot of cortizon at the vet help?

since july i have been intching almost unbearbly with tiny spots popping up almost like insect bites. i have always had the most horrible inching reaction to insect bites you can imagine. i have a dog and cat in my 1 bedroom apartment. i found ONE flea on my dog (after 6 months of seeing nothing on them or me) so i went out and bought flea collars for both the animals and flea powder for my carpets. since then i’m still itching like crazy. is it possible that there are still fleas even though i NEVER see them and NEVER catch one on me or biting me even though i get these spots 4-5 times a day? i even notice the “bites” pop up on me at work though thats much more rare. i just feel like i would see them if they were still around and i never do. i also thought allergies but i’ve switched detergents/soaps/air freshener and nothing. please help. i’m losing it.

my dog has fleas and to got a spot on thing for him because the vet recommended it for him many years ago.(Advantage by bayer)

im sure ive put it on him right because its worked every other time

i only treat him when he actually gets fleas because its expensive (and my mum refuses to pay that much)

its been around 2 weeks since i put it on and it hasnt had much effect unlike the other times. i dont want to give him a flea bath because he usually bites his skin to its broken when its itchy (from allergies and stuff) so i dont want to put any cleaning stuff on broken skin

+ he is already wearing a tick collar for paralysis ticks and not fleas (other collars dont usually protect him from those type ticks or only last for 2 weeks) so id rather not use anymore pesticide treatment (ticks are common in my area and id rather not pay another $1300 vet bill if he gets tick poisoning)

any suggestions?
the spot on is meant to kill fleas around him as well

he has only been infesting 3-4 times in his 8 year life

Hi All,

So my 8 month old lab mix pup has fleas. I live in a city, but there are some patches of grass around, as well as a doggie park nearby. My pup has been spending time at another place more in the burbs, and that house has an outdoor cat as well. We use Frontline on the cat, but still find fleas when we give him the occaisional flea combing.

So, for the pooch we first tried BioSpot drops for his neck & hindquarters. They could be considered off brand, but we were trying to be cheap. We also supplemented it with a flea/tick collar because we were going hiking that day.

30 days came and went, and we weren’t overly concerned. We did still notice fleas–we figured it was because it was cheaper than, say, Frontline. We were in a pinch, so we did another 30 day dose.

Near the end of the 30 day run, we got some flea shampoo. I can’t recall the brand, but I know I got it from a PetSmart that didn’t have a vet sponsoring it. We gave him another shampooing a few days later (a bit earlier than the recommended 7-10 period) and still noticed fleas within a short period.

A neighbor in the burbs with a similar dog recommended K9 Advantix, saying that his dog is flea/tick free & his dog arguably spends more time in a wooded/grassy area. Reading the packaging for K9 Advantix revealed an abundance of warnings for killing cats (more so than BioSpot).

So we broke down and got some Frontline for his next dose…also overlapping the shampooing & the last day or so of the BioSpot dose. We figured it was okay since he still had fleas.

Well he definately has less fleas on him now…maybe 4-5 instead of closer to 7-10+. Still though, this doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve had dogs in the past (albeit with less outdoorsy exposure) and never even seen a flea. I feel so bad when I see him chomping away at his fur. We noticed that the base of his tail had a small hairless patch and read that it may be due to allergies to the fleas.

Help! How can we accomplish his fleadom (keep in mind the outdoor cat)?

Thanks in advance,

Flea-Ridden Owner
