Question by Shay: Do dogs become immune to frontline? Allergy season dry skin question?
I have a 1 1/2 year old Shih tzu. I started treating her with frontline when she was about 4 months old. I was told by my vet that she should not have fleas on her but I just found/killed two on her the other day. I am wondering if like humans dogs become immune to drugs administered to them? This drives me bonkers when I see a flea on my dog. I also just took her to the vet to get a haircut nail trimming and while she was gone I washed all her toys/bedding and flea bombed my house but still see these fleas. Please help me I am going nuts…lol
Also I notice that now that the weather is getting cooler
( I live in Toledo Ohio) that her skin is getting dry and scratching more. What are good shampoos for a shih tzu with dry skin and flaky skin. Any suggestions other then talking to a vet My vet is a great vet but she wants Tilly on Prednisol and I don’t want to continue to drug my dog. I am open to helpful suggestions from people with this experience. Thanks in advance

The pets don’t develop immunity it is the fleas that develop immunity. Try using Advantage/Advantix instead. Oatmeal doesn’t work well for allergies as the skin is actually moist/damp when it needs to be clean/dry. Allergies don’t dry out the skin as most owners mistake it for. Your vet would be best to get a good medicated shampoo. You should only use a good hypo shampoo that doesn’t have soap/detergent/dyes/perfumes in it to prevent any reactions.

Question by suzie B: My dog has fleas and i have 3 other animals i will be treating w/ frontline but my apartment will still have ?
fleas in it but i am kinda scared about bombing the aparment. Will the fleas continue to live even though they will not be able to live on my dog b/c of the frontline? Its september and starting to get cold so that may factor in on the fleas thriving in a colder enviroment. Is there any safer affective way to treat my apartment? I dont want to bomb since i live in a apartment and is not totally safe AND one of my dogs has skin allergies. I want stop these lil pest from biting me and i want them out of me and my animals lives!!!!

Bomb the apartment ASAP. If not you will have fleas in your carpet all winter and they will bite your ankles and your legs and they are gross and dirty.

I ask because I use front line on dog and put it on correctly but poor thing still gets fleas fairly bad, my cat however isn’t on anything and doesn’t get them at all. Even after ill get fleas off of dog and he will be free for a week or so he still will scratch and be up all night. Could allergies or skin problem make fleas worse?
He’s a 6 yr old poodle
