Question by Lee R: what can I give my dog to feed her medication since she has allergies.?
I tried wrapping her pills in her soft allergy food, tried sweet potatoes (liked them at first and now won’t eat them because she got a bitter taste from one of the pills) and can’t give her greenies. I am at wit’s end to get her to eat.

open her jaws and stick the pill in her throught as far back as you can reach. she will automatically swallow if you do it right. but if your dog is a biter, don’t try this….

Can I give my lab human fish oil w/ omega 3?

Question by CANDI E: Can I give my lab human fish oil w/ omega 3?
I was reading in the Dr. Fosters & Smith magazine and they offer the omega 3 w/ fish oil for dogs to help with skin and allergies. Is ours just alike, and safe to give to my dog?

I have been told that this is perfectly fine.

You may want to talk to your dog’s vet before you do.

Question by Erika *mom to one fabulous pom*: is there a cure for dog eye boogers? I already feed top of the line food and give filtered water?
Im not sure what to do to fix it. It isn’t a big problem, vet says it is most likely allergies, but it is with both of my dogs. I have a 5 lb pom and an 80 lb chesapeake bay retriever. they aren’t green or anything, they just get heavy every once in a while. I feed them both Evo as well as Nature’s Variety RAW dog food. Their water runs through a filter. My chessie takes omegas and fish oils, but to no avail. They never itch or rub their faces and their eyes aren’t pink or irritated at all, just boogery in the mornings…. Advice/tips?

You already do more than enough. If that does not work nothing will. It is probably airborne allergies.

Is it ok to give a dog Benadryl tablets everyday?

Question by Pookster: Is it ok to give a dog Benadryl tablets everyday?
My GSD has food and environmental allergies that caused her to scratch very excessively to the point where she had tiny sores on her stomach from licking and biting. We changed her dog food which did help and the vet also recommended that we give her 2 Benadryl tablets a day, 1 in the morning and 1 at night. Her itching has almost completely stopped but I’m worried if Benadryl everyday could have harmful long term effects on any of her organs

Best answer:

Answer by $ arah(APBT owner x4)
I give Benadryl to my dog and have not had any problems.

Question by Claire: Is there anything i can give my cat for pollen allergies?
I recently went to the vet about a problem I had with my cat which has been sorted out, well he’s about 80% better. However when I was there he asked me about his ears as the year before I took him to the vet because he kept rubbing his head I the ground when he went outside, I noticed he mainly did this when the weather was hot and sunny and the vet just told me to apply E45 on the ears as he was making them sore and bleed occasionally. This time the vet asked me again so i told him he had been doing it again a couple of weeks prior and his ears did get a little sore at one point but then the weather went cold again and we had rain for a few day and it was quite damp for nearly 2-3 weeks and by the time I got him to the vet about his other problem his ears had pretty much healed. Again I mentioned he did it when it was hot and sunny outside and he said he could have an allergy of some kind mabe to pollen which did make sense me. The vet however didn’t say anything about if there was anything I could give him to help the irritation (if anything can be done), but like I said his ears weren’t bad at the time, hardly noticeable unless you really looked (the hair was slightly tin on the back of his ears). The last couple of weeks tough since seeing the vet it has been hot and sunny again and his ears though not bleeding he has rubbed some of the hair off both ears and one is a little scabby to the touch.

He doesn’t have ear mites as he has been checked on both occasions.
So what I was wondering is has anyone had any similar problem with their cat with pollen allergies and is there anything I can give my cat for the problem for when summer is fully upon us. The weather has gone dull again and a bit colder and he’s stopped doing it again so I’m pretty sure it’s something outside annoying him when it’s hot and sunny. He’s only just turned two so this will be his second summer outside and it seems like there is a pattern occurring, also over the winter he was fine.

I will phone the vet to ask if it gets too bad and ask advice in the pet shop but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas if there is anything available I can give him.
I’ve seen this:
Veterinarian’s Best Hot Spot Spray – it does say To soothe seasonal skin irritation from flea and pollen allergy dermatitis. However it does say for DOGS. The ingredients are Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera and Chamomile.

They also do Veterinarian’s Best Pet Swabs – Hot Spot Swabs FOR CATS AND DOGS which contain the same ingredients Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera and Chamomile. Why would the spray just be for dogs but the swabs contain the same ingredients and are for both cats and dogs?

I saw this on Amazon.com but don’t know if they sell this in the UK but anything similar would be most welcome.

I’ve also seen this on Amazon.co.uk
Dermacool II 50ml Spray
Dermacool is specially formulated to provide prompt temporary relief of itching associated with moist weeping lesions including hot spots. The unique formulation aids in drying and cleansing. The soothing and cooling effect helps reduce the likelihood of further self-inflicted trauma to the affected area.
Do you think this would help?

Any advice would be a huge help, thank you.
CTU, thanks i thought i read somewhere that tea tree oil was toxic to cats but thought i must have been wrong seeing as they are putting it in cat products. So why would they put it in? This is when things become confusing and i don’t know what’s right or wrong when i’m reading different information.

Best answer:

Answer by CTU
Do not use anything which contains tea tree oil in it. It is highly toxic for cats.

Have you talked to your vet about giving him antihistamines?
Some help a lot. They make the cat a bit drowsy in the beginning but once he gets used to it, should be ok. My cat has allergies and I give her a quarter of a pill called “chlorpheniramine”. She itches much less than before, just makes her sleep a bit more but at least she is much more comfortable.

Wish you luck:)

Edit:Claire, don’t know why they put it in though but it’s like the “Hartz” products. They still sell them and those too are toxic…

What do you think? Answer below!
