What is a good shampoo for a dog with allergies?

Question by Lucy: What is a good shampoo for a dog with allergies?
My dog has really bad food allergies so it makes his skin flaky, we are just starting to get it under control. I was wondering what a good shampoo would be to use since I assume the shampoo would have to be something that didn’t have any ingredients in it that he would be allergic to.

I bought at the feed store a brand called Equys Micro Tec, but it is pretty expensive and it seems to have worked ok, but I want him to smell good too. Whenever I have had him profesionally bathed he smells so good, what types of shampoos do groomers use that I could use at home but would be ok for his skin?

Thank you.
Bama Bully Rescue…. The vet told us it was allergies, because we have been dealing with his ears being horrible for about two years now, they kept saying it was yeast but after being flushed and medicine it just kept coming back, he also has flaky skin on his back.

After his last trip to the vet for his ears the vet said it was most likely allergies because his ears were very inflamed and no infection.

He has been on a food that is Salmon Sweet potato and all organic treats, and his ears have stayed clear, so I am pretty sure the diagnosis was correct because his ears would be back to itching if it were something else since we changed his food.

We make sure there is no corn, wheat, chicken, lamb. It seems to be working, but his skin still has a little bit of flakes but not nearly as bad as it was.

When in doubt, you can always use baby shampoo. Very inexpensive. This is the only human shampoo you should ever use on a pet.

Baby shampoo is too mild to strip oils from your dog. Any vet will tell you that.

It is gentle, sweet smelling and non-allergenic.

It won’t do anything about fleas or ticks. So make sure you do enough submersion to drown fleas, and examine your dog regularly for ticks.

Q&A: Good quality dog food that is cost effective?

Question by Psycho_Mutts: Good quality dog food that is cost effective?
I want to feed only the best to my dogs but there are so many different brands. My dogs are eating Science Diet,I know what many of you are thinking that’s not great food and I agree but it was the best available even with some questionable ingredients.
One of our dogs has a sensitive stomach, one has allergies and is super itchy, and the last dog will eat anything and is fine.
Well I’m all for a raw diet but I disagree with many of the beliefs of the raw diet.
I want a dog food that has no corn, wheat, soy, lamb, beef, meat meal, animal by products, cheese, canola oil, onion, garlic, chicken, and containing three or more meats.
All I want is a reasonably price healthy dog food. Do you know of one or more that can be found in New England?
For the people who are going to say try a raw diet how much do you spend on dog food in a month and a day per dog? Do you add in fruits and veggies?Where do you get your meat? Do you feed under a nutritionists guidance?
If you feed your dog a away other than kibble or the raw diet what is it and how much does it cost to feed one dog two meals in one day?
I’m not agianst named meat meals (chicken meal, turkey meal, lamb meal, etc) only the products that include just plain meat meal as an ingredient.
I don’t like the fact that garlic can cause anemia and death when given in lagre amounts. The exact amount before death is uncertian and debated. I have done resarch and the risks out weigh the benifits so it is cut out completly.

I am not sure if it’s sold in New England, but Chicken Soup is on the higher end of dog food, and is fairly cheap, too.

Is Science Diet a good dog food?

Question by Sue Lucy: Is Science Diet a good dog food?
I have a 10-11 month old Boykin Spaniel. He is on Purina Puppy Chow right now, but a lot of people say it isn’t a very good food. In about 2 months we have to switch him to an adult food. We were thinking about science diet. Boykins have sensitive skin and bad allergies. What dog food do you think is the best? Does anyone use Science Diet?

Answer by ?Betta Splendens?
Science diet is a horrible food. It has by-products and unnecessary grains. Try something like Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, or Evo. I feed our dog that has allergies Blue Wilderness. A good dog food’s first ingredent will always be meat.

Question by preciosa: What is a good shampoo for a dog with dry and sensitive skin?
My dog has dry, flaky skin with dandruff. I put an oil supplement in her food and she also eats Science Diet Skin/Coat formula, but there is still some dryness, especially after baths. She has black fur, so it is very obvious on her otherwise beautiful coat. The veterinarian has mentioned she suspects my dog might have some allergies, but I’m not sure to what. Any recommendations on a shampoo that will be easy on her skin and moisturizing? I’ve tried a couple different kinds with no luck.
