Earlier this week, dog came down with hives on her head, swelling of the skin on her neck (she almost looks like a turkey with the droopy skin) and constant licking on her front legs (armpit area). We took her to the emergeny vet and he gave her a shot of steroids and benadryl. It went away for a couple of days, and now its back. I’ve been giving her doses of benadryl (seems to help a little).

I’m in the process of moving (which i think is the only change surrounding her). Also, if I changed her food (about 5 weeks ago, could this be a problem too). Is it dust mites, or a food allergy. Where do I even start to begin looking to find out what her problem is? Has anyone ever experienced this?
Thank you for the responses. I’m hoping that after the move, things will settle down. I’m going to go to petsmart and buy some different dog food and the shampoo that was suggested.

It could be stress, dust or the new food.

Change back to the old food and see whether that helps. The familiarity of the food should also help calm her down, which will reduce the stress in general.

I’m 15 and at the age of about 10 i started to get huge eye circles that look like i got punched in both my eyes. I couldn’t find out whats wrong with me so i used concealer to cover them and now my eyes are puffy and my eyelids are smaller, Which throws my face off balance and makes my nose and lips look bogger and my eyes lok to small!

I’m going to go for a week without any face wash body wash nothing just hot shower every morning,
and i was wondering if you think this is my concealer?
and do you think i should go for an allergy test? because i have been to one but that was when i was about 8 because i had a cough and they said it was nothing?
I also live in a house with 2 dogs, 8 cats, 4 chinchilla’s, a hamster, hedgehog, fish, and 2 birds!
I’m going to go for an allergy test once my hair is grown out, and at the moment i am cutting things foods stuff out of my life for weeks at a time to see if that does the trick.
I was just wondering what are the different kinds of allergy test such as hair and other things and how accurate are the results and do they hurt? thanks.

P.s. one time my eye went back to normal because i twisted the eyelid skin and it stayed that way all day but it won’t do that any more?

It’s better if you cconsult a doctor/ cosmetologist/ dermatologist. You must reveal all these points about so many pets, childhood injuries, one-day twisting of eyelid. No hurting tests are conducted on your skin.

Okay..I have a little bichon frisé and hes already on antibiotics that the Vet prescribed for his allergies. He scratched is neck really bad and the vet had to trim the hair raw to the skin. So you can amagine that hes in pain and he dosent sleep at all since he has no ways to get comfortable.
Is there anything i can give him that would help him get some sleep… Like half a Gravol..or something?? But remember hes already on antibiotics….. :S:S
Thanks for the advise. I actually just called the Vet and unfortunatly nothing can really help him at this point… We just have to play the waiting game until the medication hits in.

Don’t give your dog anything without checking with your vet first as it could react with the antibiotic l suggest calling them asap the poor little thing they may give him pain meds

My lhasa (vets says 6 yrs old; rescued him 4 yrs ago) had bloodwork & showed slightly elevated WBC. All else ok per vet. Hes usually active & playful, but sometimes suspect he doesn’t feel well. Have blamed that on allergies; sneezes a lot & nose runs of clear water. Old allergy test showed some + to grasses. Never cough or fever. On 5mg zyrtec qd for allergy relief. Has VERY bulgey eyes that run constantly; perhaps contributing to nose drip.
Has occassional limp up front. Vet says prob arthritis given poor conformation. He’s on cosequin & Carprofen 12.5 mg qd. Vet does anal glands every 6 wks. He’s well groomed & clean. Skin and coat healthy but skin often pink in color.

Ears healthy. Potty normal (some mucousy stools). Food & water intake normal. Teeth & gums healthy. Neg for hot spots & dry eye. Excercise daily. Canidae food.

1. Should I be concerned about the WBC & what should I do? Vet says to watch him closely!
2. Should I have front legs imaged?

I would just continue to follow your vet’s advice. You should just monitor your dog for any decline in health. If he has allergies, that may contribute to the elevation in WBC (although you don’t mention if there is a rise in one particular one or if they are all elevated). If the vet isn’t too worried, then I wouldn’t be either. As far as getting rads in the front, again, if the vet isn’t worried, I wouldn’t be either! Good Luck!

my dog has had bald patches on her back, she has been tested for mange, ring worm, etc.. in parasites she tested for all internal parasites and external parasites.

they have cleared up, but now ALL her fur except on her neck and face, and feet is shorter, dry and thinned out.
she has half the ampunt of fur as she used to have her fur is thin and her skin is dry and flakey.
whats wrong
she has had special shampoo, she has to be bathed in it weekly its called ‘malaseb shampoo’ she has had 2 types of tablets but not working so she hasn’t got them anymore.
she is only 4, she is a staffordshire bull terrier, white with black spots, has had allergies all her life and as normal every year she gets ‘hives’ (lumps on her body,normal for her, gets them every year in summer’ but we don’t know whats wrong she had a vet appointment and they gave us a new bottle of malaseb shampoo and carry on using it weekly.
we have been using it for about a month already, she has also have some cream for when she has the sores from the skin scraping, but this shampoo is for the dry skin but what about the fur loss?

please help, she seems not in pain and her normal self, a sleepy, but jumpy when someone comes in, LOL, been like it all her life, still like a little baby and i don’t want it to get worse.
please help
